My kitten is 3 months old now, a Persian that I got from a cattery. Last week my dad came home with some type of fungal infection on his arms, and the doctor quickly blamed it on the new kitty. I said nah, no way, but since she got her last set of vaccinations the day after I did mention it to the vet. She said Persians are indeed more prone to skin infections, but that it was usually visible on the paws and ears. So she checked her, and said she seemed entirely clean. Still, she said, it could be the case that she carries it.

I asked the cattery and the breeder assured me her cats had never had anything like that, nor did she, and quite frankly I don't have any sudden infections either. However, I do have a patch of skin on my feet with a reoccuring infection and it does seem to have come back the past week.

I do plan on going back to the vet but yea... idk. She mentioned something about having lab work done and that it would take a lot of time. Then she said we need to simply bathe her with an anti-funges shampoo a few times. I'm totally down for the baths, no problem, but the expensive lab work? Don't know.

Anyone have expierence with this? Is it safe to bathe her with the anti fungal stuff without having lab work done?

I don't think you should give her any sort of treatment without knowing if she needs it.

Do NOT use antifungal preparations until you have a confirmed diagnosis -especially on a 3 month old kitten.

What type of fungal infection does your dad have? Fungal infections can be caused by all kinds of things. The most common type that goes between cats and humans is ringworm.

How is the kitten? Is she showing any signs of being uncomfortable or itchy anywhere?

No she doesn't scratch herself much, if at all. I've seen her scratch herself maybe once or twice in the past month and a half that I've had her. I checked her ears myself too, and her paws. Parted the hair on her paws on different sections to really get a good look at the skin, and it seems squeaky clean. I won't treat her without diagnosis, then. I thought that since it's "just a bath with some anti fungal soap" I should be safe but upon reconsideration, no.

I don't think what my dad has is ringworm... hm. I'll ask, that should help maybe. Calling the vet tomorrow and it would be nice to be able to tell her what kind of infection it is, anyway. Thanks

I'm just scared that she might carry it altough I can't see anything on the outside. Because if she does have it it'll surely start bothering her at some point. I guess I'll just have to be safe and opt for the tests at the vet.
