Help!

My kitties are peeing outside the litter boxes! We have 2 boxes, one in basement and one on main level. It the last 2 weeks one of my cats, (don't know which) has taken to peeing on the floor, my husbands jeans, and on my Christmas tree skirt twice now! Neither is straining to pee in the box, anc they both are still using boxes... Why the change and how can I stop it! It seems like they pee on things that are on the floor. Ie: pants on floor, plastic bag on floor... tree skirt/garland on floor... They are already on a grain free diet.. What do they do??

The first thing to do is get them checked by a vet asap. Peeing outside the box is often caused by urinary tract issues...especially when peeing on soft things (which seems to be the case here).

In the meantime, be sure to use an enzymatic cleaner to thoroughly remove all traces of the smell. Avoid bleach too as, to cats, it smells very similar to cat urine. The last thing you want to do is confuse things!

You might want to add in a third box too, and maybe scoop more frequently. They may be avoiding using the boxes when they're dirtier.

Look at stress busting measures too. Feliway can often help cats to chill out and relax. They may simply be unsettled by all the changes and stresses that Christmas brings.[article="32366"][/article][article="29728"][/article][article="32341"][/article][article="32493"][/article][article="30274"][/article][article="30316"][/article]
