Can anyone identify this bite/fight mark? My cat came home 2 days ago with a swollen face from an infected scratch mark. It busted yesterday. Now he just has this huge gash in his face. Any ideas on if it is a bite or just result of a fight? Any ideas on what type of animal could have done it?

Have you taken your cat to a vet?  He needs antibiotics and for that wound to be dressed.

It could have been anything from a dog, raccoon, coyote, even another cat (I think you would possibly smell it if it had been a skunk). Looking at it, it might even be possible that he was struck with a tree limb

Regardless, he definitely needs to be seen by a vet ASAP as the would looks infected, and since you don't know what kind of animal bite him - or how he even got the wound - he needs to be on antibiotics and possibly quarantined until rabies are ruled out. Bites to the head are especially dangerous because of the infection to spreading to the brain, eyes and /or ears. At this point, the vet might want to incise and drain the wound also.

Keep us posted, please!

Definitely needs to be seen by a vet right away. Bites like that can lead to serious infections if they aren't dealt with quickly. If your vet thinks it was a cat bite it might be a good idea to have your cat tested for feline AIDS. This disease is most commonly spread through cat bites.

Is your cat neutered? Intact toms are more likely to go off and get in serious fights than neutered males are. He'll be much healthier and you won't have to shell out so much on the vet if you get him fixed.

Keep us posted, I hope he's going to be OK.
