Dear fellow readers,

My 3 1/2 year old cat, Bianca, was scooting quite a bit.  Unfortunately, the scooting took place on my expensive couch and bed spread.  I have to be honest, I was either going to kill her (not literally!!!) or take her back to the Humane Society where I adopted her.  I have always had cats but never one who left brown streaks on my furniture. Disgusting!!!!! I took her to the Banfield Pet Hospital three different times.  The first visit they said her anal glands were impacted but had to be extracted.  The second and third time they kept telling me her anal sack was impacted. The problem is when they extracted her glands hardly anything came out and she was left a bit traumatized by the experience.  I was advised to switch her food.  I started her on Blue Buffalo for indoor cats.  I then switched her to Wellness.  Both brands caused her to scoot. I was frustrated because I don't have the finances to bring her into the vet every month.  I finally took her to The Cat Hospital in South Tampa.  It turns out she had crystals in her bladder which caused her discomfort.  The vet advised me to put her on a prescribed urinary controlled diet for the rest of her life and suggested Hills or Royal Canin.  I have had her on Hills wet food for the last three or four months.  She reluctantly ate the food because that was all she had to eat.  I figured out she is a dry kibble kinda kitty.  I switched to Hills C/D dry food.  She comes running when she hears the bag opening and gobbles the kibble right up. The issue has been solved and her scooting has completely stopped.  If your kitty is scooting it's not cute or funny.  Your cat is trying to tell you it is uncomfortable.  It may be impacted anal glands or, in my case, crystals in her bladder. Go and get your cat checked from a vet who specializes in cats.  Good luck and I hope this helped.

Thank you for posting this! Our cats have their own unique ways of telling us something is wrong, but we don't always get the message very clearly.
