Trying to make a thread to get other peoples opinions/success stories on getting their kitty to lose the blubber.

Aimed towards: Types of Wet and or Dry food you have fed your cats to make them lose weight.

Exercise if you used any to help them lose weight.

Finally what did your cat or cats weigh before and after you put them on a diet.

For me I had one of my cats become overweight twice in 2 years. When they got fat I started feeding them Dave's turkey or chicken recipe for about 2 months and they dropped down to about 13 pounds.

I gave them lots of toys they could play by themselves with, as well as a lot of different wands.

My cat weighed 20 pounds when we started and dropped about 1.5-2 pounds per month while trying to not overdue it. I fed him as if he was a 12 pound cat by giving him half a can per meal.

I have 4 kitties  WTs done today are 18 pounds, 18 pounds, 16 pounds and 12 pounds.  I am weaning them off kibble and increasing wet food until I can totally get them off kibble.  2 of them are badly food addicted with a lot of begging behaviors that need to go away too.  Has anybody got any good strategies on reducing kitties weights in a multicat situation?  If so it would be so helpful to know what worked!!

I've just started with serious portion control for Mouse. Week 1 just done.

He's a lot less active than he was a couple of years ago, and I have had 20 months of sharing my home with other people so it was hard to prevent extra food being conned out of unsuspecting house guests.  His middle is definitely more rounded and pudgy than it was or should be and I want to see him looking fit again. Probably up to nearly 16 lb.    It is now back to just me feeding so the food can be weighed out each day and no extra treats.   He is on a prescription dry diet and changing the type of food is not an option so the portion control plus encouraging increased activity need to be my main strategies.  Fingers crossed we can make a gradual impact on his extra belly.

Feeding is back to being mostly active, being thrown for him to chase rather than eaten from a bowl.  I throw it across the room and where possible in to various paper bags and large boxes so he has to run and jump about.  He has fun but it does make a bit of a mess and I have to be careful and clean up any biscuits he misses.  Other games are more challenging as his play drive is not as high as it was, but he does still enjoy hide and seek racing about the apartment, and the occasional race after DaBird.  More ideas would be welcome.

I think it is hard in a multi cat household and would be interested to see what others suggest.  I am sure if I had another cat Mouse would eat anything dry that was put down whether it was healthy for him or not.
