Hi! My poor kitty is not doing well at all, and as a last ditch effort I was hoping to try to find someone with a kitty with FHS and severe aggression issues (both self-mutilation and attacking other cats/humans) that wouldn't mind chatting with me. Is there anyone on here with that particular experience?

You can find more about Hazel's story here:

I see there are several threads on FHS (which are so helpful!), but I didn't see anything in there where the kitty also had severe aggression against other cats/humans. Thanks for your time!

I wonder if the two are related?  I seen an episode of Jackson Galaxies series with a kitty that had severe aggression and after ruling everything else out it was decided by the vets that it was FHS,  In this particular instance it had come to the attention of Jackson Galaxy because the owners had called 911.  The couple and their young son ended up in a room while the cat was on the other side of the door growling.

They did end up rehoming the cat because the couple had a young child.  They put the kitty in a quiet home with a retired couple and there was also treatment with some tranquilizers.

Hi! Yes, that kitty was named Lux. Thanks so much for responding @Denice. Unfortunately, he continued to have problems and was not able to stay with his new family. Lux now lives at a cat hospital. His story is here (link to article on Lux):

We've tried a whole litany of things for Hazel including Prozac and Xanax. She doesn't do very well with medication, but we haven't tried anti-convulsants. I was wondering if anyone on here had a cat like this and had success with treatment. Hazel is currently scheduled to be put to sleep tomorrow. [emoji]128532[/emoji] She had a particularly terrifying incident last Tuesday and still hasn't calmed down (we've been to the vet). I'd love to hear from anyone who's been through this if at all possible. Private messages are absolutely fine too if anyone doesn't want to discuss their experience in the wider forum.

Peagreen...my vet needed help with an issue with one of my kitties and he went to an online site that vets use for consultations.  I don't know the name of the site but if your vet isn't familiar with FHS he could find the site and go there for help/advice.

Is there any chance you could speak with your vet about it tomorrow, to see if there are other options now that FHS is something that could be a possibility?

Out of curiosity, did they ever specify what anticonvulsants they use for FHS?

Thank you so much for responding everyone, for the additional information, and for the links.

@Donutte, yes, that's exactly what we are going to do. We spoke with the vet tech today, and we will be given the chance to talk more with the vet tomorrow first.

It sounds like there's a few different anticonvulsants sometimes prescribed for FHS. One is Phenobarbital, and funny enough, the other is one of the same anticonvulsants I have to take for my own migraines. It's Gabapentin (Neurontin). Thanks for your post on seizures and the difficulty of detecting them at times in animals (and humans) in the other thread. I found this article on feline seizures, which I found helpful:
