Hello,

Kitten is 3 months old. Was fine in the morning, ate a meal, played with me. He then took a nap.  He woke up after an hour, then his eyes were a mess. Don't know how this happened so suddenly. A lot of discharge. 3rd eyelid showing. A lot of sneezing. I have to wipe his eyes often because the discharge builds out and starts spewing out of his eye a bit. He eats just as much, and is still willing to play and be active, but it seems like he's sleeping a bit more than usual. I can tell the its really bothering him though. Constantly has the sniffles and won't open his eyes all the way.

I want to take him to the vet first thing in the morning, but I might have trouble finding somewhere that is open on Sunday, other than an emergency hospital, which is usually very expensive.

Both of you should take your cats to the vet as soon as possible. They likely have upper respiratory infections and need antibiotics. They may also need eye ointment.

Is there anything I can do to relieve him in the meantime? I want to take him ASAP. Having him home like this is very stressful.

You can take him into a steamy bathroom to temporarily relieve some congestion. Continue to wipe his eyes with a damp, warm cloth. You really do not want them to become crusted closed.

I ran a hot shower and stayed with him in there for about a half hour. You don't know how dramatically that worked. His eyes were wide open.

I took him to the vet, just got back. No fever, his breathing is normal too. So that rules out any infections and whatnot. We were given an ointment.

He's happy and stable now. Thanks!

The vet looked at his records and saw he got a vaccine. It was a nasal vaccine, administered through the nose. She's not 100% sure, but she thinks this may have been in reaction to that.

I was told to watch his eating habits, and watch for discharge from his nose. Luckily though, his appetite is as usual, and a stuffy nose, but not runny.
