My vet is prescribing it because my cat always looks like she's in pain (meatloafing a lot, especially after eating). She's early stage CKD with probably IBD/food sensitivities, she's on prednisolone, omeprazole, and peritol now and is actually eating again, but still clearly uncomfortable, so this is the next shot in the dark...
(A long thread about her issues is here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/310152/gut-issues-deciding-whether-to-give-my-cat-steroids-prednisolone)
Anyone have any experience with this drug? I looked it up and it's banned in the US for human use, and saw this about cats:
"Although dipyrone is a very mild NSAID, these types of drugs should be avoided or very carefully monitored in animals with liver disease, kidney disease or GI problems."
The only side effect the vet told me to watch out for is excessive salivation. She said she doesn't really like working with this drug, but said with her kidney and heart (mild murmur) it's the only option for pain.
