Hi... I hope you don't mind me starting this thread, as there may be a post elsewhere discussing this already.

But I wonder if people could list anything they think of that worked with them, where they were creative about getting help from "non-official people" or in unusual ways.

Anyone feel free to answer, even if you are new here.... even if you think it's weird.  Sometimes thinking out of the box is helpful.

I know a couple of people who started "Go Fund Me" pages, with some success.  They depend on a lot on who sees them though.  Facebook helps many people spread the word.

Some have advertised on Craig's List or in freebie papers, although you have to screen respondents closely.  But you can meet a lot of people interested in helping cats that way.

If you have any contacts with your local politicians, talk to them about the benefits of TNR.  If you have no shelter, point out how much money they stand to save by not having to send stray animals to other counties/cities.

There's a radio show that comes on early Monday mornings called Lets Trade Even people call in and talk on the radio about things they need cheaply or things they are giving away or looking for like kittens or car parts. We also have a community website in our town on Facebook that's the same thing.

Use local and social media to find people interested in starting something. Stick your heads together, define a goal, figure out the skills each can contribute to the cause. Find supporters and sponsors. It can be small and simple, but it is a start! Good luck!
