Good morning.

Do you have any bad or annoying habits? What do you do that makes other people cringe?

I've got a creaky neck. After years of trying to sleep sitting up on buses and trains while I was travelling and then landing on my head a few times after falling off a horse my neck makes some pretty weird noises. Sometimes it gets really stiff and if I tilt my head to one side it makes a loud popping sound. It's like when people who have arthritis crack their knuckles, only louder.

A few times I've caught myself doing it in public and got some really strange looks from people.

Does anyone else have any strange habits like this?

LOL, I am a 'pen clicker'!

I am always clicking my pen when I take a pause while writing or doing any kind of paper work. I don't even realize I am doing it. But one evening, I was helping my daughter with her homework and I was waiting 'impatiently' for her to give me the answer. Finally, after waiting several minutes and watching her staring at her paper, I asked her, "Do you need me to explain it again?". She gave me a look that would fry an egg and said, "Mom, how do you expect my brain to even work when you are clicking that stupid pen at it?!".

I laid the pen on the table and apologized, and she said, "No worries. I think I've got this".

Now that she is much older, it still grates her nerves and her responses are a bit more direct - "MOM! Give me that pen before I gouge your eyes out with it!" LOL

It's not really a habit, but it makes one of my co-workers crazy.

I tend to let my nails get rather long; I don't like having to cut them back and deal with them, so I just let them go. And once they reach a certain length, then I am typing on the tips of my fingernails. And when I'm typing fast, my co-worker says it sounds like a woodpecker constantly pecking. I've got auburn hair, too, so he calls me "Woody" (Woodpecker). But every once in a while, he'll holler over our cube wall, "D'ya think it's about time you cut those things down?!!!" That's my hint to clip my fingernails.

I'm a 'clicker' too Norachan Norachan :lol3: With me it's mostly my knuckles and right shoulder - after repeated RSI issues on that side, my shoulder will click pretty much whenever I use it. It gets really stiff too. It's drives people around me crazy - especially my parents! Mum's been known to leave the room before now because she hates it so much :anon:

Mine is talking too much about my cats. I can see their eyes glaze over, just as mine do when they are going on forever about the latest volleyball game or basketball tournament !

I probably have a ton of annoying habits but am not aware of them

One that I often think would annoy people (because the sound annoys me even) is when I crack the upper part of my back. Technically the lower part of my neck. I have cervical radiculopathy (fancy term for pain caused by pinched nerve in the cervical spine) that got particularly bad last year. And nowadays when I'm in the car for a long time, I have to throw back my left shoulder to "pop" it because it gets so painful. It sounds horrible but feels SO good.

I am a crack addict! Knuckles (Stopped that, after doing it since teen years the consequences starting to catch up...) feet, wrists, elbows and sometimes the knees and hips.

Sometimes on purpose, and sometimes they just are there. Particularly when I start at the ballet barre to begin warm up, there goes all of us, crack crack crack

And when I stretch out my arms to you know, stretch them, my elbows just go right into a crack. Wrists are more on purpose though, and trying to quit that too. Altogether though, it tends to make regular people jump a tad or look at me strangely if I absentmindedly  pop.

I also make clicking sounds with my tongue/teeth, but only in private.

(Woooo that makes me sound like a catch!
 Hey there boys

Haha I crack all the time too! Especially if I've been laying down for a while and stand up to stretch...pop, crack, creak, crunch, I sound like a bowl of rice crispies! Like twisting a handful of bubble wrap! I try not to but sometimes it just happens, and I have never met anyone else who was like that too! Crack twinsies :)

Oh and I also chatter my teeth too, sometimes to the beat of the song i might have stuck in my head. Not loud enough for others to hear but they sure can see my temple and jaw muscles moving as I sit there, quietly, with my mouth shut tapping out only a song I can hear...
I probably look crazy like I'm about to go postal or something haha :D

I am so very guilty of that, too!  The other thing, and it isn't something that I have any control over at all, I have tinnitus, it's multi-tonal, and I have 50% hearing loss in one ear, and 65% loss in the other.  I tend to have my TV fairly loud, and I say, "What? a lot.

I know I talk about my cats too much! I'm sure there's other stuff too I'm just not aware that I do it.
