Hi there,

My cat Sawyer had PU Surgery about 5 weeks ago. After the vet gave the okay to take the collar off I did and noticed he was licking excessively. We went back to the vet and they tried changing his flea tablets and food as he was also getting cystitis.

Still he kept licking so after a day spent at the vet and a number of vets looking at the surgery site they have decided it is swollen and sore because of the licking so he has an ecollar again but this time a soft one.

We were given cortison cream which Sawyer was happy for me to put on.When I was at work the other day he managed to bend it and must have started licking again, since then he won't let me put the cream on- he swats at me and moves away. Should I worry and take him back to the vet or could he just have irritated the site again and need more healing time?

Thanks Stephen.i spoke to the vet after sawyer managed to lick right through the collar. The vet says to keep the same collar( I've taped it up with sports tape) and try to distract him every time he licks. He now thinks it may be months with the collar [emoji]128542[/emoji]At least another 2 weeks & then we will see what happens. Hopefully now since I'm on holidays I'll have plenty of time to distract him from his licking. I just really hope that it is just a behaviour thing & he isn't in pain.

What a pain I'm so sorry for him! Let's hope it's less time!
