Saturday night I took my 6 yr old male cat into the Vets with a blockage. The Vets thinks he should be able to come home tomorrow. He wants him on Science diet C/D dry food. I am not a fan of Science diet food but I want to follow my vet's advice. Anyway he said at first he was eating some of the food but now he is not. When I was just there visiting him I tried to get him to eat the canned C/D food but he wouldn't

What can I do if he isn't going to eat this food? I know there are other good brands out there. I know some can be very expensive so I do have to consider that. I have two other male cats that I think I should try and switch their food too even though they are not having problems. I want to do what I can to prevent these problems for my cat's sake and financially I don't need any more Vet bills.  I will be making payments on this one for a while.

Thanks for any advice you can give!!

Last year Rocky had a blockage, and was on prescription hills canned food for a while. He didn't seem to interested in the food, so initially I had to put temptations cat treats on top of it to encourage him to eat. Maybe there are different prescription foods you can try? I had to talk with the vet about getting him prescription canned food instead of prescription dry food.

I wish you the best of luck! Our experience was so stressful and expensive- that one emergency vet trip cost us a couple thousand. Here's the thread I made during the whole ordeal:

So many people gave me helpful advice on there, what I found most helpful was advice to give him wet food and increase his water intake. Also, a vet tech at the clinic had recommended mixing some water in with the wet food. Other things I did to increase his water intake was get more water bowls, get a drinkwell premium cat fountain, and put ice cubes in his water. I hope things get better for your kitty!

Blockage can be the result of several conditions in the urinary tract. I think that if your cat won't eat the prescription food, you should call the vet and get further instructions from them. I wouldn't risk going by internet advice because what may have been a good fit for another cat may not necessarily be a good fit for yours.
