Hello! I am new to this forum.

To give a little background...

I been breeding sphynx cats for 10 years. This last year has been a nightmare.

I got mycoplasma in my cattery from a cat I brought in from overseas. Was dealing

with spontaneous abortions, pyometra, and females that were just not conceiving. And if they did they went

on to have 1 kitten. I worked with a reproductive specialist who had me treat my house for 30 days with zithromax.

It has helped immensely but I am still seeing issues here and there and we are at a total loss :-(

I have no idea if pneumonia can be caused by micro plasma but I been losing kittens in a very strange way.

Back in the early spring I had a litter of 5 that all developed a clicking sound in the chest. Put on antibiotics

right away. Went downhill even after antibiotics. Lungs would be totally taken over by the pneumonia. No other symptoms

were ever developed. Just the lungs. Eyes and nose were clear. Had necropsy preformed at Cornell University and Herpes virus

and mycoplasma showed up in the one kitten. We sadly lost the whole litter to this.  Vet claims mycoplasma could not do this and it was probably herpes. But its very strange no cats in the home are sick at all. The mother had kittens 2x previously and kittens were fine. She has actually since had a litter and all 5 were great and went to pet homes. I know cats can be carriers but these are lines I have dealt with for years. And it just don't seem like herpes to me.

We had a litter in October and all the babies were very healthy and will be leaving soon for pet homes. Never sick.

Now I have a 2 week old litter. Always very healthy HUGE babies. The mother NEVER sick. One of the kittens

started with this clicking noise in chest. Put immediately on antibiotics with the rest of the litter (vet recommended Zithromax).

This baby has made a steady decline over 4 days. Is now open mouth breathing. Never any other symptoms except immediate pneumonia.

One of the other kittens just started with noises in the chest :-(  Has anyone experienced anything like this? In 10 years I have never seen

anything like it! I have dealt with many things but nothing like it ever. Our vets are all at a loss.

I appreciate any feedback!

I'm no expert, but can't a Mother cat pass viruses to their young? Doesn't happen 100% of the time, but there is certainly risk to that.

Just a couple of findings through the web,

Allergic pneumonitis

Aspiration  pneumonia

Mycoplasmal pneumonia

FVR, maybe passed from parent?

Hope this gets solved, what a terrible thing happening.

You definitely found an awesome forum; I'm certain someone with much more knowledge than me will respond soon.

Keep us posted!
