I bought Natural Balance dry food to supplement my cat's wet food.

The magnesium level is .15%. A good "low magnesium" diet is said to contain .12% or less.

So, is .15% too high or is it quite close to .12?

Is that dry matter analysis? Also, does your cat need to be on a low-magnesium diet for medical reasons? According to the AAFCO tables, there's a minimum level of magnesium that should be in cat food (0.04% of dry matter analysis) but they don't cap the maximum level. High levels of magnesium are associated with struvite urolithiasis in cats with high PH urine, so if that's an issue with your cat and you need low-magnesium diet it might be a good idea to consult your vet about this. I know that in humans it's very hard to overdose on magnesium because our kidneys filter out the excess amount and it's secreted through the urine.
