I think that if he is open mouth breathing then you should have him looked at. At least they can listen to his chest. Does he let you touch him all over? You know how they do this at the vets right? See if by touching his belly or wherever if he purrs loudky when you touch him? Any swollen areas? It could be reaction from the chemo.

Did they give him subfluids on Monday? I wouldn't feel comfortable giving him more fluids until someone takes a peak at him. His behavior almost sounds like depression? Its so nerve wracking when we notice things that seem "off"

Well, he isn't doing that anymore. still purring, but not open mouth. Didn't feel anything. purring level stays the same. It almost has a trill in it, so that's why I wonder if just the pain meds.

OK, I just talked to the tech that normally sees him w/ the vet. & she said I can bring him in, & will at least give peace of mind. hate to drive out there in this time of day traffic, will prob take a good 40 minutes, but would rather than stress all night!   He couldn't stop purring enough for me to do any breath counts so.. here we go!

I'll let you know when we get back.

YOU CAN?!!!! Yay!      I don't know why it doesn't work on my end, just glad you all can see it!   No, he wasn't hot. He will sometimes go in there, but usually jumps back out on a few seconds, so was funny that he sat in there for so long!  He's been coming in there a lot w/ me lately. Yesterday, I picked him up & just sat down holding him for what I think was a good 5 minutes, just purring away again. That was so nice, he usually doesn't like to be held very long, so I enjoy it when it happens!

Nothing new on the Go Fund Me page. I think I updated last week, but not this week.  It seems to be at a stand still. I am grateful for what I did get though!  They told me a few weeks ago that I needed to make a withdraw.
I was going to wait, but ok.  So out of the 510.00 that was raised, after they took their 3% It was 466.44, so I just put it safe in my savings account, until the gift from my client is used up at the vets. :)

I took this one this morning when he was in there w/ me getting ready for work. He has never jumped up on the toilet, I put him there, & he stayed!  ...Just different these days. Usually doesn't hang out in there w/ me.

That is a BEAUTIFUL picture. Perhaps he just wants to spend more time with you.

Aww thank you guys SO much!!!!!

I am SO glad I listened to my intuition, (even if it took me a while), & took him in.  he chest X-ray showed clear for any fluid, but she did notice his heard looked a little enlarged, so she did something he has never had before, an Echo. She said that it was enlarged, & one of his ventricles (forgot which) was thickening, so was on the verge of congested heart failure!!!  Said that the Pred was not good for him, because of this, but needed to be on it for the chemo, so instead of one & a 1/2 a day, he will now only get 1/2 a day. She also put him on a heart supplement, "Cardio Strength. It has all kinds of anti oxidants in it. He is also now on Atenolol, like me! He gets 1/4 of a 25 mg. a day.

OMG, the cardio Strength cost almost as much as the Echo!  (Total: 186.35 tonight! )    I am glad I took him in though!

On the verge of congested heart failure scares me though!!   I really hope he will be okay.  I just don't even know how to process that!  Hopefully, he will be ok, because we caught it.    So I guess now in the mornings, he will get the 1/2 pred, & crenia & tramodol, IF he needs them.  Then, in the evening, he will get his Cardio strength, Atenolo, & pepcid. (since they gave him the cardio & atenolol this evening already) only have to give him his 1/4 pepcid tonight.

I tried offering him his dinner when we got home, but he hasn't touched it yet.

This is how I feel,  Just want to crawl in bed & pull up the covers & retreat!     Oh, & Foxxycat, no, he hasn't played at all since all of this. Probably since very early Dec.

Awwww I'm so glad that you brought him in. Sometimes the pred has this effect and once tapered off it can go away. Now you know why he was sticking to your side. Going to read the rest of your post. Just wanted to tell you so glad took him in.

And the echo is a really good tool for diagnosis. Its really the only way to see exactly what the heart is doing. Just know that whatever it is they can medicate and help. We will help you.

Ok just read through. So glad this was caught. Go have a good cry and get some sleep. Come back tomorrow and we will figure out what ever needs to be figured out.

I've learned so much about heart disease through my friend I told you about. She's got a heart kitty. So glad they agreed to treatment.

I need to find Another vet because floey has something going on with her heart and they told me that they can't medicate until she goes into heart failure. How horrible. Wish your vet was in my area. Too many quacks.

I've heard that fish oil is supposed to help the heart. There's one off the tip of my finger coe-10 or something like this. .....sending you guys hugs.

Did they explain why the pred can't be stopped abruptly? Something to do with the adrenal glands. Sending you hugs! !! The good News that this was caught early.

I will have to pay attention if my girls start acting weird. Thank you for sharing this with us. Maybe these signs can help another pet parent catch things early.

You know Angel so well @Angels mommy  and following your gut feelings was spot on.  Lucky that tech was aavailable to talk to and said you could take Angel in for a check.

Did they say if they think the heart issues are as a reaction to the Pred or if they think it might have been going on for a while?  If they hadn't detected anything before it could be a reaction to the Pred.  The slow reduction in that medication is to avoid any issues related to the adrenal gland - which include carciac issues and inflamatory responses which can be made worse if it stops suddenly.   Tapering it down slowly is the safest thing to do even if the heart problems are because of the Pred.   It is amazing how quickly medication like the Atenolol can kick in too - when my previous older kitty was put on meds to reduce her blood pressure it came right down within days and she was noticably better despite it having affected her eye sight.   Now the vets know about the heart issues they should be able to treat Angel with this taken in to consideration and have him feeling better through the second half of his treatment.   You know that this is what we will all be wishing for.    Now what you need to do is to relax with Angel as that is what will help him the most.

Thanks MServant!  Yes, she thought it was because of the pred, but said it also runns in large male cats, so....  So now down to 1/2 a pred a day. His b.p. has always been good, even low for being at the vets, she has said before, so I think she said the Atenolol is to help calm his heart down. It was beating pretty fast.

Yes, he laid out here on the floor for a bit, did a little 2' poop, (may have to do fluids tomorrow, if he doesn't poop more from more food), & went back in the bathroom. I took his bowl in there, & I think he ate some. i will check in a few. Was trying to give him some space to relax & decompress from all of that. Now, I have to do that too!   ...........Aaaaand exhale!!!!

I'm so glad you went with your intuition on this.

Angel is really lucky that they found this in time. I hope the new medication works for him.

You can take a deep breath and relax now, it sounds like you both need to decompress.
