I noticed a cast over Mooni's right eye a few days ago, so I recently took her to the vet.

The vet thinks maybe it is a systemic toxoplasmosis infection, since she has horrible halitosis and dark waxy plaques in her ears with no sign of mites. Since the cost of the visit was climbing with every test, she decided to prescribe clindamycin hydrochloride orally, Polydex for the eye, and Tresaderm for the ears. She tested negative for FeLV. The halitosis has already disappeared in two days treatment, but I expect the eye to take longer.

She came in with her eye closed a couple of weeks ago, but there was no foreign body to be seen and I brushed it off to a poke by a sharp plant or careless scratch by one of my other cats. In quickly resolved and I thought nothing of it until the eye clouded over.

She gets premium foods so her nutrition is not lacking, but since she was just a three-four week-old kitten when I got her from the shelter it's hard to know if she was properly nursed by her momma to get the colostrum she needed. She is otherwise a fiesty, active, smart ginger grrl.

I asked if L-Lysine would help Mooni, since she seemed concerned for her immune system, and I have seen it mentioned here for herpes infections and she seemed to agree that it would. Where is the best place to obtain it on the internet?

Any other advice on getting her back up to snuff would be appreciated.

Poor baby! I get my L-Lysine from Amazon:
I think it is a bit cheaper than a pet superstore (it was only $18.15 for the 3-pack when I ordered it in September), but it is not much cheaper now. I like that is comes to my door though

I hope Miss Mooni feels better sooni

OK, we've been treating Mooni for a week or two and, although at first the eye was seemingly starting to get better, now the cast is suddenly back and the other eye is showing the same clouding. I am still waiting for the steroid drops to come in the mail I had to order from a drug compounder way across the nation, but she is still on oral antibiotics, ear drops and an antibiotic/steroid eye drops.

Reading up on the medical abstracts for this problem is not  comforting to me at all. Not only is it difficult to treat, it is difficult (and expensive) to diagnose the cause, and often no cause can be found at all. Since she also has gingivitis, and dark waxy plaques in her ears the vet hints at a systemic or autoimmune problem.

I don't have the financial resources for testing of myself, medically,  never the less trying to track down this elusive malady in a pet. I can offer her all the support I can if she eventually goes blind, and I know that pets can live full lives without their sight, having had a Cattle dog who suffered from PRA most of her 13 years of life, but I do worry about the gingivitis and anything else that can go wrong internally.

Has anyone dealt with feline uveitis and could offer up some more help and tips?

I just saw your thread and was wondering how Mooni is? Based on your last post, it sounds like the gingivitis is back? Also did the steroid drops finally arrive and are they helping?

You really have my sympathies as you try to get a handle on her problems. I don't have any experience with feline uveitis but maybe by bumping this, someone will read it who does.

Mooni is really a beautiful girl. I'm very partial to ginger tabbies and she is a prize winner. [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Aww poor girl. She's so beautiful too! I don't have experience with uveitis, but I have come across it before on this site and know there are some members who've dealt with this. Unfortunately it does sound like a rather nasty condition especially if it's causing Mooni pain.
