I noticed a cast over Mooni's right eye a few days ago, so I recently took her to the vet.
The vet thinks maybe it is a systemic toxoplasmosis infection, since she has horrible halitosis and dark waxy plaques in her ears with no sign of mites. Since the cost of the visit was climbing with every test, she decided to prescribe clindamycin hydrochloride orally, Polydex for the eye, and Tresaderm for the ears. She tested negative for FeLV. The halitosis has already disappeared in two days treatment, but I expect the eye to take longer.
She came in with her eye closed a couple of weeks ago, but there was no foreign body to be seen and I brushed it off to a poke by a sharp plant or careless scratch by one of my other cats. In quickly resolved and I thought nothing of it until the eye clouded over.
She gets premium foods so her nutrition is not lacking, but since she was just a three-four week-old kitten when I got her from the shelter it's hard to know if she was properly nursed by her momma to get the colostrum she needed. She is otherwise a fiesty, active, smart ginger grrl.
I asked if L-Lysine would help Mooni, since she seemed concerned for her immune system, and I have seen it mentioned here for herpes infections and she seemed to agree that it would. Where is the best place to obtain it on the internet?
Any other advice on getting her back up to snuff would be appreciated.
