Tip: Litter Box Cover

I have a large Rubbermaid-type storage container covering my kitty's litter box in my storage room. She used to kick litter all over the place. Now I have much less to sweep up, plus it looks much more pleasant for company.

Turn the container upside-down and cut a doghouse-style opening in either the broad side or the end. Having the opening on the end will make an even more enclosed and private litter box. Use either a box cutter or strong shears, but be careful the plastic can be very tough.

Once you've cut the opening, lay the lid on the floor. Place the box on top of it and snap the inverted container back on the lid. It only takes a few dollars and a few minutes to make a piece of furniture that is completely washable and will last practically forever.

The other concept I like about this is how you can stack litter boxes on top, I think I would pre-fill them to have a

fresh one available, also you could get a adhesive command hook and put the cat litter rake right on the side

of it. This really could also mean much less litter on the floor as well, just so many good points here, and I am

so glad you find this useful, I love to share good cat tips.

...with the cats...
@lmj1954 -- very timely thread for me! i was just looking at a couple youtube videos yesterday about using a rubbermaid-type storage container for our jaspurr -- very enthusiastic coverer, digs 'to china' which causes much litter scattering.

great idea you came up with! i absolutely love it!

I don't think it would work for me.

My Harley loves to LAUNCH himself out of the box... it's a game to him, so the spray of litter goes EVERYWHERE. =(

I can just see my cats using the pans on top of the box instead of inside. :lol3: I may have to try this anyway.

That's a good idea. I don't think Angel's big long, under the bed storage box would fit. Not sure if he would like the overhead. I finally resorted to a litter mat, but then he would get out on different sides, depending on where he got in, so I went & bought 2 more to cover each side!

So, put the box with the fresh litter inside another tote right side up with a lid on it! The totes aren't all that expensive! The litter boxes inside should fit inside of each other even with litter in them, so more than one would fit into the extra tote!
