I know I've touched on this in another thread but now that we're on day two of his...

Sara has been vomiting in the early morning for two days now. I think I heard the yakking noises 5 times yesterday and 4-5 times this morning. I have to call my vet's office when they open later anyway because I need to make an appt to bring her in for some re-testing of things, and will see if I can ask then about this, but wanting to see if anyone has thoughts before then.

She is eating, which is good. Surprising, but good. She hasn't thrown up anything other than white foam or clear liquid. The one appeared to have a slight greenish tinge, but not 100% sure if I imagined that or not as I was still waking up. She hasn't been puking any other time of day either, just 1/2-1 hour before my alarm goes off in the morning.

She's already on Pepcid right now, 1/2 of a 10mg tablet. I know a lot of people tell me 1/4 is better and 1/2 is just for extreme cases but my vet tells me 1/2, so that's what I'm doing. But, is it possible the timing of when I give it to her is not good? I've been giving it more in the morning; would it be better to give it at night?

And, could it mean anything else? Any help would be appreciated, and would help me at least be able to formulate questions properly for my vet.

Sometimes vomiting bile (which is what this might be) is simply caused by the stomach being empty for a little too long (and becoming a little too acidic as a result). Feeding her just before bed or leaving food out for overnight snacking might be enough to stop this.

They all get canned food about 7pm (which gets grazed on rather than scarfed for most of them), and then we have dry food available 24/7. She's a picky eater and really will only eat when she wants to (not when her mama wants her to - unless her mama has goodies for her). Unless she is just eating less that normal, which is possible.

She's also at the very tail end of a course of Clavamox right now. She gets her last pill this morning. I've been trying to be very diligent about making sure she eats before giving her the pill. Wondering if it's just at the point that it is not agreeing with her. I know when I'm on antibiotics, if I'm on a two-week course, the last 3-4 days are miserable for me.

She WILL happily eat an Appetizer for me though pretty much whenever I offer it to her... I just have to make sure the boys aren't around.

Well, looks like Sara will be going in today! I called the vet's office and they decided they wanted to see her today, so off we'll go in about an hour and twenty minutes.

How did it go at the vet? This would happen with my Chessy who is also on Pepcid for CRD, and I did find that leaving a little wet food out overnight for him to snack on helped a lot.

Was told to try doing the Pepcid at night, which is what I was already thinking. There is wet food out already since she tends to graze at night. They did a blood panel to check her T4 (it was really high the last time when already on methimazole). Also did a cystocentesis and well, her urine looks like red kool-aid still. And I got to see it this time around. So, culture time. My pocketbook loves me this year, let me tell you.

Anyway, that was more than what this thread was about, but that's all the stuff that happened. She agreed it could also be the antibiotic just finally getting to her, so between that being done and switching the Pepcid to the evening, hoping for no pukey tomorrow morning.

So far she seems ok. The morning will tell. I'll be giving her the Pepcid and hyper-t meds tonight - no antibiotic so woohoo for that.

I think I heard some yakking (I say "think" because I didn't actually find anything) but only a couple of times, not 4-5. And I'm not entirely sure I didn't dream it at this point, because my brain likes to do that to me. She seems very good this morning. The next test will be if I have to coax her to take her pill pocket like I did the last two days.

Also awaiting the call from the vet to hear about the T4 levels. I'm really nervous about that. I won't hear back on the culture for a couple days.

Edit: She came for the treat and ate it!

Heard back from the vet. I seriously needed to have a call start with something other than "it's bad." And that finally happened! Thyroid levels are back down, actually a tad low. Leaving one dose per day as is, lowering the other back to 5mg. Preliminary culture results show no bacteria after 24 hours. She is definitely showing signs of early kidney disease, no masking anymore. BUN is ok, creatinine is 1.7 and SDMA was high, forgot the exact number. Higher than last time though, and it was above normal then. Add the perpetually diluted urine to the mix and well... I guess not all good news, but not shocked about CKD.

I'm glad you got some good news from the vet. Those numbers don't seem too bad. Hope she stays stable for a long time!

Compared to the numbers Lucky had when he was diagnosed (his creatinine was 8.3!) it sounds downright awesome. With him, we went right past "treat aggressively" to "make comfortable" phase. At least with Sara, we're in "aware and keeping it in check" phase.

Vet called back again today. Got the final results on the culture - no infection at all. So that's completely ruled out now.

The only things left are tumors/cancer, or FIC. An ultrasound would help determine if it's the former, but I'm really, really thinking it's FIC at this point. If for no other reason than it would totally fit Sara to have something so difficult to diagnose.

I was also told to start her on the k/d now. I think the best I can do with it is try to feed her as much of that as possible in hopes that she'll be filled up, because there's no way I can stop her from eating any of the dry we have out there. She's eating kitten chow as I speak. Plus I don't want to take away everything she really likes.

I want to do what is best for her without making her miserable. I feel like it's a bit of a fine line to walk. If she was the only one here, that one be one thing. But she's not.

Its tough when you have more than one trying to feed them different things. Keeping Sara in my thoughts!
