Hi, all! A month ago I got a kitten and we've slowly introducing her to the resident cat. A couple of weeks ago during a short play session gone wrong the kitten scratched the resident cat's face. He had scratches above his eye that bled and a scratch in the corner of his inner eye. There was nothing in his eye and it doesn't look funny at all but I'm concerned about the scratch near the corner of his inner eye.

At first we just kept an eye on it and watched for any signs of an infection but it just seemed to be sore. He tried to keep it closed most of the time. Since the scratch he has had really dark eye boogers. It doesn't look like puss it looks like normal cat eye boogers just darker. I have let those naturally fall off just in case they were scabs but recently the same area of this scratch has started to look a little raw and red but still with the same dark eye boogers. The eye boogers seem to be frequent and develop daily. On both eyes they look like there is some of those dark crusties.

He isn't acting different at all! Still affectionate, playful, eating really well, using the litterbox! He also doesn't seem to be picking at the eye. I'm so worried about him though, he has the prettiest eyes and they just aren't the same :( :( I could never forgive myself if he isn't okay!

What is going on with his eye and what should I do? Has anyone been in a similar situation with their cat? All advice is welcome, thank you!

Here's a picture of his eye today. It just started looking like this yesterday. This picture makes it look worse than it looks in person but it's still not good. You can also see some of the crusties around his eye. He has never had those before.

I had to take my kitten to the vet last week and while I was there I told her about his eye and she said I only needed to be concerned if it was puss. She gave me a bag of lysine treats in case the kitten gave the resident cat a little "cold" that made his immune system decrease. I've been giving those to him for 5 days now and it looked better for a little now it looks like this.

Have you tried bathing the eye in warm salted water but only slightly salted. My cat had a scrape several years ago and got a deep cut on his nose and this is what we did. But If you chose to this I would be delicate as its close to the eye. Hope this helps and kitten gets better soon!

I will definitely look into that, I'm scared to pick at it since is is so close to the eye. This is what his eyes normally look like, it's breaking my heart.

It happens, even with cats who are best friends. Those are some lethal weapons they sling around! They're bound to make a mistake every so often. My vet usually has me put a warm, moist washcloth on little scratches for a couple minutes a few times a day. It helps with any swelling and encourages any crud to drain.

I would definitely advice not to pick it at the moment and obviously you feel you want to but it won't let the eye heal as well. The best hope is to leave it be and treat it according to vets instructions if necessary but it will heal in its own time. Keep an update and sending good wishes to your resident cat. I have recently got a new kitten and at first she was just the same and would attack the resident cat but after a while she's learnt not to. However, we adopted a 2nd kitten which she now plays with so that could be a possibility although a bit dramatic. I'm sure the kitten will settle down in her own time. :)
