Do any of you have credit cards with the RFID chips in them.  They have these purses and wallets that protect people from stealing your info from these chips inserted in the credit cards.  None of my cards have these chips in them yet, I don't see why they started this chip thing.

The thing is ,if you need protection from these chips, why bother with them at all.  Does anyone know why the chips are being inserted in our cards, just wondering.  There must be a purpose.

my credit card was just replaced with a new one with the RFID chip in it.

now being of a slightly suspicious nature myself, i wonder if these new chips in the credit cards may be for marketing purposes (at least partly). i mean, types of stores, online vs in store purchasing, types of items bought, and etc. are always of interest to those in the marketing field. and that kind of (free, as in we wouldn't be paid) marketing info can be sold, and many times is these days.

It's an attempt to make the credit card system more secure. We'll see how successful it is....

I don't see how they could be used for marketing info any more than your credit card number already is. Unless you mean something like at the door of a store that records all the chips going through, a bunch of readers placed throughout the store to track your movements? Your phone's already doing that for them.

I guess it's pretty easy to copy a swipe strip. Not as easy to copy a chip.

And, yeah, they already use your card info to customize the promotional material you receive. I started getting a lot of baby-based ads after buying my cousin a baby shower gift :tongue2:.
