Well, I wouldn't treat her/him any differently than any other cat moving, I don't think.  You can use Rescue Remedy for cats to help keep her calm, play harp music in the car, divide the drive into two days if you need to, etc.  (BTW, I also have an almost 16 year old kidney cat, so I can empathize
.  We recently did a remodel, and I used the Rescue Remedy and forced her to be trapped in the same room as another cat she doesn't get along with, and they both survived...this went on for several days) .

Here's one article on taking a road trip with cats that you might find helpful:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/36-awesome-tips-for-road-tripping-with-your-cat

I know when we moved here with our cats from another state, we put them all together in a large dog crate in the back of our hatchback.  It worked out great.  (different cats

great comments. I found that putting a blanket over the carrier helps. I would also make sure that you line the carrier with something that is absorbent and easily removed in case they have an accident.

Wish I had great advice for you. I bought three soft carriers, one for each of my cats. And we drove from New York to Florida two of my cats were fine and the other cat crying the whole way and got really sick. He had 105 fever and wouldn't eat for 4 days. I had him on antibiotics fluids and medication. He made it he's OK. I hope it was just a coincidence but the doctor said ihe probably was very stressed out & immune system down. my cats are between four and six years old.ask your vet because he is an older cat with problems.
