So its a bit awkward to say, but I've noticed the tiniest amount of yellowish whitish disharge with snot/mucus consistency on Rocky's genital area.. just a speck really, and just a couple of times. Should I be concerned? He's acting normally, no excessive grooming or anything.

A google search said it might be something called "smegma"? Is this a common occurence in cats? I'll be keeping my eye on him, but he seems completely fine.

I've never noticed that on either of my males, but from what I've read on it, it's normal for them to "excrete" a small amount from time to time.  But if you start noticing lots of it, or excessive licking, then it's time for a Vet Visit.

Thanks for the reply! I've been watching him and it hasn't happened again, I've only noticed it about 2 times. The first time being about a month ago, the second time being yesterday. As I said, its only about a speck of it and his behavior and grooming has been normal. I was a bit worried though, since he had a UTI about a year ago, but it doesn't seem like it should be of concern. I'll keep an eye on him though!

UPDATE:

Help! Rocky has started displaying sexually aggressive behavior! He's started bothering his sister, Bijou, sniffing her butt trying to bite her and mount her!? He's neutered, so why is he doing this? Bijou is spayed too so I don't know what it could be.

Also, I saw him grooming his manly bits and I saw a pink thing come out of that area? Just a little reddish pink tip- I think it's his penis?

Rocky has just been weaned off a steroid, so maybe something funky is going on with his hormones?

I'm really worried that it's a UTI, he was obstructed last year and it was so scary! I talked to my parents about this, but they just shrugged it off. They are not keen on making a vet visit (where I live, a regular appointment costs you an arm and a leg) and we've already racked up THOUSANDS in vet bills due to all the numerous health issues he's had.

Ugh, so much stress

That little pink thing you're seeing probably IS his penis.  I've had 9 cats, 7 of them male, and only seen one of their penises.  They don't usually come out when they are just "hanging around",but my old guy's would sometimes when he was grooming himself.  Here's a thread on that topic:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/308009/cats-penis-exposed-while-grooming

As far as the aggression/mounting....how long ago was he neutered?  Sometimes it takes awhile for all the hormones to get thru their system, so if it was recently, that could be part of the problem.  Did he do this before his was neutered.  Some cats continue doing it "just because".  it's a form of hierarchy or them

Does he actually hump her, and wrap his forearms around her, or what?  My two males are often found one on top of the other, biting each others necks, kind of whailing (I think whoever is on top and biting is doing the whailing), and we just holler to knock it off and they separate and walk away as if nothing happened.  It's goofy.  So I don't know what to tell you.  I just don't see how that behavior is indicative of a UTI.

Keep a close eye out though, for the normal signs...excessive licking, peeing outside the box, crying in the box, lingering in the box, or multiple trips to the box with no output, etc.

I have scheduled a vet appt for Rocky tomorrow. Although he is still passing urine, it's obvious that he's been taking longer to use the litter box and has been peeing in really small clumps as of today. He's also increased the amount of time he's spending grooming down there, so it looks like there is a problem. Last time the symptoms were very clear, but this time around they seem little and easy to miss. Maybe I was able to detect it earlier this time?

As to the reason of his sexually aggressive behavior, I don't know. I'll ask the vet what she thinks tomorrow. Rocky is currently 2.5 years old, and was basically neutered as a young as possible. We got him from a rescue group at around 3 months and he was already neutered. He has never displayed this behavior before, he's started doing it just recently. He will chase her around the house, sniffing her butt. He will then proceed to get on top of her, and bite her neck. Bijou is usually successful in defending herself, but Rocky just keeps trying at it. It's so strange!

Thanks for the replies, and I'll definitely update tomorrow after the vet appt. Rocky is such a problem child- he's had numerous health issues, while his sister has never experienced any! He's such a great cat though, and I love him to pieces; I just wish he had a little bit more luck in the health department.

UPDATE: Took Rocky to the vet on Friday, and he was diagnosed with feline idiopathic cystitis. He's on pain meds for a couple of days. I also just got the results of his urinalysis, and they found bacteria in his urine! So now he gets one onsior 6 mg pain tablet every 24 hours, and a clavamox tablet for every 12 hours. They didn't find any crystals or sediment in his urine, so that's a relief.

Honestly, I'm pretty confused about what exactly he has.. like one moment its FLUTD, UTI, then FIC? Are they all the same thing? The vet says he might experience "flare ups" of FIC, and as long as he can pass urine all we can do is treat him with pain meds.

The vet also recommended getting a feliway diffuser for the litterbox room to help him destress, has anyone had any luck with this product? I will check petco and petsmart to see if they carry it.

As for his weird sexually aggressive behaviors, he's stopped it now. When I took him to the vet she checked his penis for barbs, but couldn't find any. She said it might be a dominance display? I was thinking.. could it be that since he was in pain from the UTI he was doing it? Anyway, he has stopped doing it now that he's taking the medicine.

I'm so confused, you're the second person to have FIC diagnosed after not many tests that I've seen. I've always heard it's difficult to diagnose, and that is proving to be the case with my Sara. Having to rule out other things one by one. I want to know the secret so I can give it to my vet!

As far as FLUTD vs UTI vs FIC... UTI is actually an infection. FIC is a medical condition that can make them prone to UTI. As for FLUTD, I've always been confused as to whether that is another word for infection, or is a condition separate from FIC. I'm sure there are others more versed in this area that can reply. I'm only starting to find out about this stuff myself. Sara's only symptom is lots of blood (it's cherry koolaid colored) pee.
