It seems like the vets are clueless when it comes to CRF cats - I read Tanya's CRF bible & they're so knowledgeable and I mention something to the vet here and they either don't know anything about it or are recommending bad food with byproducts and mendione bisulfate (probably what causes the kidney problems in the first place) I mention probiotics and they say they use purina's fortiflora which the first ingredient is byproducts - animal digest junk and has a ton of sodium - exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I feel like they are just idiots who spent their time in vet school learning how to bill clients. She also says she uses convenia which is known to kill cats and that was the last straw for me. I need to find a smart vet asap that actually cares about the cats they treat, spends time researching and calls to see how the cat is doing instead of making me track them down and beg for a few minutes of their time only to wind up educating them instead of the other way around. So please if anybody in the Long Island NY area has a vet like that they can recommend - I am desperate for one. PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE ONLY.  I can tell you right now that Bellerose Animal Hospital, Catnip and Carrots and Long Island Veterinary Specialists are awful and in my opinion worthless money grubbing thieves with no more advanced knowledge then a first year vet student and lazy, uncaring dolts. So other than them .....

I forwarded a copy of your post to someone I know in NYC who has knowledge of cats and of some of the vets there.  In the meantime, I would suggest you look up the AAHA accredited animal hospitals in your area, and then find out if they have a feline specialist on staff.  If you can locate one that is CATS ONLY, i.e. an accredited feline hospital, that would be even better.  Here is a place you can get a list located near your zip code.

As the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in the United States and Canada, the American Animal Hospital Association sets the standard for quality animal care. Did you know that accreditation is not mandatory for veterinary practices? Find out here if your pet's hospital is AAHA-accredited.

You are probably familiar with the Feline CRF Information Center, but if not, here is a link to it:

I just want to mention that there are great vets who are not in the AAHA.  I am not in Long island so i cant make any recommendations there but i have used specialists and internal medicine specialist at Blue Pearl in manhattan (hospital that requires a referral from another vet to get into unless its an emergency (24/7) and the Animal Medical Center also in NYC which is a large teaching hospital.
