I love the white lights. It's so nice and neat and pretty. Lights up the room. Maybe I like them because my mom refuses to get them for our tree lol. I love how soft they are. The colored ones are played out in my house.

I like both; in different places!  We do colored on the tree; which is how I grew up with the tree done.  I do a white strand with a pine garland around the kitchen.  I have iridescent white around the ceiling n the living room.   I've also used a white strand with blue and silver garland around our foyer.  Outside I have a colored lights tree.  I'd love to outline the roofline of the house in the big colored bulbs; but DH isn't into it.  And the garage peak is so high I don't want either of us attempting it.  I was thinking; the local fire companies should do fundraisers hanging lights on houses with a bucket truck.  People might pay for that!

I like colored lights outside and in. My favorite lights of all are bubble lights. I spent many magical Christmases staring at them when I was younger.

Never had a Christmas tree in my life.
I've always thought it was a strange thing to do - cut down trees, bring them inside and cover them with weird things. Not that that stopped me from doing it but I can see why others might wonder about this strange ritual!

We don't put up a Christmas Tree either. I'm thinking of decorating the Kitty Highway with silk holly and ivy leaves and a few fairy lights so we can all enjoy it. Maybe clear/white lights? They look more like twinkly little stars to me.

Traditional Japanese New Year decorations are made of bamboo and they don't have any lights on them. I think one of these would get shredded pretty quickly in my house.

I've never thought it strange. It's a christian thing. I'm not Christian. I like looking at decorated trees through people's windows.

Oh, I understood what you meant! Your comment started a train of thought, that's all. Probably I should have let that train run off the tracks...,[emoji]128516[/emoji]

LOL. I probably wished we could have a tree as well when I was small. My parents made up for it by giving us presents on the first night of Hanukkah.

Christmas trees are a German tradition (probably based on pagan rituals originally) that was introduced to Britain by Queen Victoria's German husband, Prince Albert, and spread from there.

I like both colored and clear lights. We've got clear for our tree, but only because the wireless "candles" only come in clear. Jamie wrecked so many strings of lights that we switched to wireless.

No colored lights for me and most definitely no blinking ones. Just clear anywhere I decorate. l I bought colored ones one year, used them once and gave them away. I just don't like them for my decorations.

I have heard and seen from many sources that the Christmas tree was a German custom.  Christmas is kind of a weird blending of the pagan winter solstice customs and a celebration of the birth of Christ.  Most historians of that time put the probable birth of Christ in the summer, probably July.

Ya'll are gonna laugh at me, but I actually have four sets of lights, because I like to change my tree according to whim each year.

A set of colored lights.  Goes 2 sets of ornaments, 1 is apples, chocolate covered strawberries and

candy canes with hard candy garland, 1 is butterflies, dragonflies and ginko leaves with ladybug

          garland

A set of white lights.  Goes with 1, a set of woodland creatures with acorn garland, and a set of blue, teal

and silver ornaments.  These lights do not blink, they actually twinkle, and cost a small fortune.

A set of blue lights.  Goes with glass ornaments, mostly icicles and snowflakes, with a few silver balls

A set of candles, in groups of three.  Goes with the blown glass ornaments.  Very old fashioned.

And of course I have a tree skirt and stockings to match each set, as well as a door wreath. Yeah.  I do get a little silly about Christmas.  ~GRIN~  I'm considering a black tree with teal and purple ornaments with a spotlight instead of tree lights, as well...HEY!!!  I could use it for Hallowe'en, too!

GOOD GRIEF...I FORGOT THE YULE TREE...white lights, golden suns, silver moons and opalescent white stars.  That's actually the most important one!
