I took Mia to her vet yesterday, she had her vaccination, trimmed her nails and of course they weighed her.

She is only 2.2lbs very tiny girl, her vet said she needs to gain more weight before her spay.

Macha's appointment will be next month, I am guessing maybe she's 9lbs.

How about your babies?

On their yearly check up 2 months ago, Kricket weighed 13.9 pounds and Keeker came in at 14.2 pounds.

Putting them on the digital scale now.... Kricket weighs 14.2 pounds and Keeker tipped it at 15.2 pounds!

I would have thought for certain that Kricket, being a Maine Coon, would far surpass his brother Keeker, who is a DSH. They have been very neck and neck regarding weight since they were babies, but Keeker has always maintained the lead by within a pound. Kricket still has about 3 1/2 years before reaching 'full maturity' growth, so he might win out in the end.

Realistically, I would prefer both of them to settle at their current weights. Right now, neither of them is structurally over-weight, and both are very solid and muscular, but if they keep putting on weight at this rate, I might have to cut back on their feedings. They really don't eat that much as it is, though.

On a daily basis, they are free-fed dry. I have measured what their feeder holds and it lasts them 1 week. I wash and refill it every Friday. Going by that, they are each eating an average of 1/3 cup of dry a day. They get a 3 ounce can of wet twice  a day, which they share, but they rarely finish it.  Last night, they were given a 5 ounce can of chicken breast packed in water (which they love) - 4 hours later, all the juice was gone, but the majority of the chicken was tossed because they didn't eat it. The same with their breakfast this morning. A 3 ounce can of salmon pate` and 75% is still in the dish after 3 hours. I tossed it.

Their eating habits have been the same since they were little. They don't get 'human' food - by that I mean they aren't given table scraps - and it is only a rare occasion when they steal off my plate if I am not watching closely enough. Other than that, they get a treat maybe 3 times a week.

At 19 months, they are very active - but it's time to start watching them. I have two big boys and I want them to stay healthy!

Oh wow, my boys weighed 2.5 lbs each when they were only 8 weeks old. I got them neutered at 13 weeks and they were each 4.5 lbs at that point. Not sure if it's just because they are boys though? Not sure if girls take longer.

WOW...really? Why she said she is too small and need to gain weight? I want her to get spay now rather than later.  Maybe I need to change vet?

Opps...sorry I misunderstood lol I just woke up. lol

Yes...she said because she is a Siamese and she is a female.

She DOES seem small for being 3.5 months old, at least going by my experience with the boys, but they say a cat can be can be spayed/neutered if over 2lbs. But, not all vets agree with that. I'm not 100% sure mine did, but I got them neutered at a spay/neuter clinic because it was cheaper.

Yes,  Dunotte she is very small, sometimes I am too scared to hold her, I might hurt her little body. I never see a kitten too small like Mia

If I will wait long she might not indure the pain?  I really don't know what to do

Is your vet concerned about how small she is?  Is she healthy?  A photo would help us to advise.

What do you mean about enduring the pain?

Yes, she is concerned she said we have to wait because she is very small (her appointment will be April) she is healthy and very active.

OMG she is cute, what a beautiful little face
Thank you Zed :-)

Btw...her appointment will Feb. 4, I checked again...made mistake...I thought April.

I am worried of her not enduring the pain because she gonna be 6 months, she is older.

Getting the surgery at any point while she is relatively young should not be a problem from a healing or pain perspective. There is, of course, increased risk from letting her go through multiple heat cycles.

Oh, little ones are resilient when it comes to that. In fact, the older they get, the longer it takes to recover. Not sure if a matter of months makes a difference as much as years do. But I can understand wanting her spayed ASAP. I remember counting down the days to their neuter appointment after I set it up.

Thank you guys for your advice, greatly appreciated :-)

I really don't want to wait too long and go through that multiple heat cycles.

My new adopted kitten weighed 2.2 lbs at 10 weeks - she is the runt of the litter. At the Humane Society in my area they spay and neuter kittens after they have reached 8 weeks and 1.5 lbs. My kitten wasn't even 2 lbs when she was spayed at 8 weeks. She (and her bigger brother and sister) sailed through their surgeries and recovered really well - they didn't seem to be in pain at all. They do bounce back well when they are very young!

Sweetie 12.5 lbs, Dutchess 13.5 lbs, Cimba 16 lbs, Dante (runt) 16.5 lbs. About the spaying/neutering Sweetie was done at 6 yrs, rough surgery and he ended up with exploratory surgery. My younger three were done at 8 weeks. My girl was slighty over 2 lbs. She had a very tough time coming out of anesthesia. I had her sleep on my chest all night because I was afraid she was not breathing well. It was a scary night for me. Recovery from the spay itself was much better.

how does their coat feel? one of our kittens only weighed 1.9 pounds @ 8 weeks  and was much smaller than the others because she had worms. She would eat a decent amount and didn't over exercise. But the vet said to also check her fur to make sure it feels nice and soft and not to thin and coarse. Once we got her a heavy vet dose of dewormer and 2 or 3 treatments at home she gained about 1.5 pounds a month. So just tossing it in that I would recommend bringing in a stool sample when you go in just to be sure. The sample tests are some of the cheapest things they do at most vets.
