I'm new to this cat site and still trying to figure it out. So I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right spot or whatever. Anyways, today I came home from work and was scooping out my kittens litter box and noticed something long and white in my cats poop.. It looked like a spaghetti noodle, so I pulled it out to examine and immediately called my vet. I have already scheduled an appointment on Monday for his first shots (he is 8 weeks old). Before, when he was just a kitten about 3 weeks old, he was having loose poop/diarrhea and so I took him to the vet and they gave him a dewormer.. They said when I go in on Monday that they will give him another round of dewormers. That it was maybe a tapeworm? And to be careful because it can be passed to humans? I'm worried.. Does anyone know what it could be, I can't remember exactly what type of worm the vet said and what the worm does, will I get sick of I get it or someone else in my household?

P.s* last time I went to the vet they gave me a thing of "resolution" and I gave it to him last night, maybe this is the reason the worm came out?

Honestly, I don't know what I'm asking.. Maybe just some insight from anyone who has dealt with this too?

Thank you in advance!

This is a great place to get help. Every one is so nice. I thought round worm until you said the vet said tapeworm. They are the experts.

This website has a picture of both so you might be able to judge better. Either way he will need a few rounds to be sure.

Oh thank you!! That website helped, it definitely was a round worm and not a tape worm, just from looking at the picture! I couldn't remember what type of worm the vet said. They said they will just treat my kitten when he goes for his appointment on Monday! It just scares me seeing something in his stool and not knowing what it was and if if was serious and if I should be worried for myself and everyone else in my house. This is the first time I have had a pet since I was a young kid!

A couple of drops on the skin on his shoulders?  Revolution, takes roundworms and outer parasites alike mites, fleas.

After a while needs a second round, like most dewormers.

Long, nudles alike - roundworms, common in kittens esp if mom is going outside or not dewormed properly,  short, rice alike - tapeworms . adult cats or fleas infested kittens - fleas are in between host for fleas.

These are the rule of thumb, but someitmes it may be difficult to see the exact difference.

And yes, that worm come out because of the dewormer, it was thus more or less dying or perhaps even already dead.

The species here are similiar to these going on humans, but NOT the same.  So although I suppose there is a theoretical possibility to infection to humans, the practical danger is almost nil.  Do the elementary and customary cleaness, alike washing hands etc.

Good you do have a natural cooperation with your vet.

Make sure you put fresh litter in the boxes after thoroughly washing them after the 2nd deworming.

Thank you! I actually washed it last night after work when I noticed and then put new litter in it again.. But again, came home from work today and this time, found 2 worms in his poop.. Both dead and long and white like the last one! Do you think I need to clean the litterbox each time I find a worm, since his appointment isn't until Monday and add new litter too, until then?

Thank you so much for the info! :) I thought it may be because of the revolution I applied to him. It was given to me when he was about 4 weeks old and I was told not to apply it til he was 8 weeks and I did. So I'm guessing that's the result of it. My vet is very helpful and has been awesome to me and my kitten, they love him there, which is even better. :) can't wait for his appointment on Monday so my mind can be cleared of all this!

Thank you! I was worried because my litter box is large as well and holds lots of litter that I didn't want to waste!
