I'm new here and looking for any feedback. My cat (Mufasa, approx 15-16 years old) is being treated for IBD. He has had ultrasounds and a biopsy (lymphoma is a possibility though the biopsy didn't show that). He is on Prednisolone 2x a day, Famotodine (pepcid) 2x/day, metocloprmide 1x/day and atenelol (old heart issue) 1x/day. He also gets B12 injections 1x/wek. His main symptoms (after a "blockage crisis" in June with surgery and removal of a section of his intestine) are vomiting (can be once every few days to once a week, to every couple of weeks...no "schedule" or rhyme or reason for vomiting), loud stomach rumbling, and weight loss. His stools are mostly normal i.e. no diarrhea. He's eating Royal Canin rabbit (pr) canned and eats 1 1/4 cans to 2 cans a day (1 1/2 most consistently). We are seeing an internist/specialist and after a couple of visits decided to try Chlorambucil. I was nervous, but believed this would be the best course of action offered by the vet. I gave one dose (2.2mg) and about 18 hrs later Mufasa had a seizure and we went to the emergency vet. Fortunately, he's ok and is now back to his baseline. Needless to say, I'm not giving Chlorambucil again. It's disheartening that this didn't work and I'm even more nervous about trying other medications. I spoke with the internist today who offered 2 options. One is to try Cyclosporine which may initially cause nausea and vomiting and doesn't taste good. This has been used on cats with mixed results. The other is Mychophenolate which has been used in dogs with good results but has only rarely been used in cats so there is not a lot of info on effects, side effects, etc.

Has anyone used one or the other of these or have any info on them. I've been researching all morning and I'm still just as uncertain as when I started. Considering the seizure, I'm going to be paranoid no matter what, but I know we need to try something.

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm so sorry your Mufasa is going through so much, poor guy.   Was the colon resection due  to his IBD?  How scary, my little kitten Buster may be in need of the same surgery, but his is not IBD related.  My Tiger, who I lost to pancreatic cancer, had the early stages of IBD or Lymphoma.  That was a very scary effect from the chlorambucil!  I highly recommend you take a look at the IBD Kitties website, and join the support group  on Facebook, as well as the Yahoo Lymphoma Group, there are so many members with so much experence, including a IM vet, Dr. Jory, who could likely have some suggestions for your boy.

For motility. He seems to vomit in spite of any anti nausea med. He's been on others over the course of his life for different reasons. He doesn't seem to do anything by the book :0) But I love him anyway.
