Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your advice!!

I'm a student with a rescue cat, and I plan on travelling home for the christmas holiday (for about 2 weeks).

My original plan was to have kitty come home with me, but after moving her to a new city for school I realized that she doesn't travel well, and I think that the stress of travelling would probably upset her more than any other options on the table, so I'm trying to come up with a plan B. It seems like I have 3 options: (1) boarding (2) pet sitting (3) bringing her with me, and I'd like advice from seasoned pet owners as to what would be the best option!

As I said above, she's stressed out by travel and slow to acclimate to new surroundings, so I don't think that bringing her home with me would be the best fit.

I love the idea of a pet sitter, but my cat isn't at all independent - she's clingy, emotional, needy, and she yowls when she's left alone for too long. I don't think someone coming in, even multiple times a day, would leave her feeling happy (and I don't think her constant meowing for attention would make my neighbors happy either!). No matter how well I cat-proof my apartment it always seems like she finds the one thing that she shouldn't be in, so I also worry about leaving her alone throughout the day because she really needs someone following her around saying "no, don't eat that!"

I'm left with the option of boarding, but I'm stressed about leaving her at a boarding facility for that long. I've boarded her at her vet before, and while they were nice and she came back happy I've always had a weird vibe about their boarding facilities and I don't know if I would feel comfortable leaving her there for longer than a week. She also came back last time with ringworm, which makes me wonder about the quality of their care. There's another, very highly rated and reviewed, cat boarding "spa" in my area, but they don't have a vet and I don't know how she would feel spending two weeks in an entirely new place with entirely new people.

It feels like I'm picking the lesser of three evils; should she be stressed, lonely, or in a new place?

Any advice would be appreciated -- and if there's any tips about how to make these 2 weeks as easy as possible for her I'd love to hear them!!

Thanks!!

One last option could be a live in sitter. I have a friend who does that. She just moves into the persons house while they are away and sits their dogs or cats, feeds them, walks them and she's there after work much like their owners. She does spend some time beforehand getting to know the animals so she's not a complete stranger. I'm not sure how much something like that costs though, might be a stretch on a student budget......You don't have any family that could come and stay? Or she could go and stay with (I know you said she's not great with strange environments but a house would be preferable to a boarding kennel which is filled with strange smells and sounds of other animals.

Can you get 2 way pet cam--the kind that has an audio, so you could talk to her? What about that with a pet sitter?
