D/D is Hills limited ingredient food for allergies and/or food sensitivity. It contains duck duck liver and peas with no soy protein. Duck is a protein that isn't in a lot of cat food so for most kitties it would be a 'novel' protein which is a protein that kitty hasn't eaten before.
