So, I need some advice. I have a cat (only like 7 months old or so). I just got 2 new kittens (6 weeks) and introduced them to my cat today. The kittens are both female and he's male. Now, he's afraid of everything - very skittish. So I introduced them, he kinda freaked (in his usual scared way) and ran behind the couch to hide. One of the kittens went to follow and I stopped her. I didn't want to push or pressure my cat and make him uneasy.

So, I've kept the two kittens in the bedroom and him in the living room. He wasn't eating though because the food was in the bedroom with the kittens. So I've set him up a separate food and water dish out in the living room. My landlord wants all pets in my room at night though. I only rent a room.

So I'm not sure what to do. How can I go about making my cat comfortable with the kittens? They don't seem to mind or care about him. But he seems greatly bothered by them. I'm not sure if he just needs time to adjust or if there is something I can do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Since introducing him to the kittens though, he won't let us pet him or anything now. But he will still accept kitty treats! lol

Thank you, everyone!

This isn't a great situation for several reasons. Your kittens are very young to leave their mother, so are going to need extra attention and training. Hopefully your adult cat can come around and help. They are also too young to have access to a full house.

Second, cat introductions can take months and have to go at the pace the cats are comfortable with. They need to be separated completely at first in different rooms. Then you feed them on opposite sides of a door, moving the bowls closer and closer. Then start over with a covered gate, then just a gate. Watch Jackson Galaxy's video on cat introductions. They also need their own litter boxes and food and water.

There aren't any guarantees that he will become buddies with the kittens. For what it's worth, my kittens ended up getting introduced rather quickly to my older cats earlier this year, although that's because they snuck under the door of the only room I could isolate them in. There went any idea of isolation. My two girls to this day still don't want anything to do with the kittens, but they've always been loners. They love human attention, but not other animals. Lucky was the only one that really warmed up to them; he unfortunately passed away from renal failure a few months later.

The kittens probably need to have their own little area for awhile though (they were 8 weeks old when we got them). We had a big empty cardboard box that we set up with a litter box and water bowl. We had their kitten chow over on the cat tree which they learned to shimmy up very quickly. But that box was their little "home" where they could go to get away from the others. We also had the carrier that I brought them home in in there. It was not closed off but it was the best we could do at that point.
