I've been thinking about getting this for my cats (there is tension between the two and I'm getting tired of my 14 year old being stressed out).

However, I was thinking about getting two diffusers as Petco has a Buy 1 Get 1 50% off. I looked on Comfort Zone's website and it said Comfort Zone with Feliway (for scratching and Urine marking) can be used with Comfort Zone with Feliway MultiCat. However, Petco only rarely has the "Multi cat" one in stock as it's almost always the Urine and Scratching one. Can two be used that are both Urine and Scratching? I was thinking about using one in my living room and the other in our bedroom (both on the same side of the house - not opposite sides).

I also have two rats and a hamster. I normally bring them into the living room with me and let them run on the couch or the hamster is in her ball rolling around the house, will this affect the rats and hamster in any negative ways?

According to by research, it is drug free and safe for all other pets and for people. Comfort Zone with Feliway is said to reduce stress by emitting pheromones like those a cat puts onto its territory. However, my concerns would be that the cat should know its own unique scent mark. Secondly, claw sharpening and spraying are not always related to stress, they are natural behaviors.

The multicat product is using a pheromone like that of a kitten after birth, to help cats feel secure and bonded. I'm not sure how well this would work, but it should be safe for other pets as well.

I think it should be safe to use more than one in a house. This is from what I have read, I've never used them myself.

I hope this helps and I hope the cats begin to feel calmer.

I've used Feliway and it has certainly settled my two.  I tend to use the spray and just spray areas where they are getting agitated.   I also find they are less likely to scratch an area that has feliway, but that may just be my two.

[product="18452"]Comfort Zone With Feliway Spray For Cats[/product]

I don't know all the different types as I live in Australia and we tend to not have the same choice of products.  But the straight feliway I have found useful.  It shouldn't have any effect at all on your other pets.

I've had success with Feliway also but am also in Australia and we just get one labelled "feliway" no other varieties but I believe it's the one you guys have marked as the urine and scratching one.

I did use it with success with my two. It wasn't 100% of the answer but it definitely helped ease things and move them along. It does take a month to really start to kick in though (the difuser) so we also bought the spray and used that in the interim.

That's cool. I'm glad it worked for you guys.

Like I said, we haven't ever needed to use it because our cats have access to the outdoors so they can get away from one another if need be. However, I'll certainly keep it in mind, as I hope to one day to foster cats.

Yes, I know. We sell Comfort Zone where I work. I wasn't sure if they are able to be used with other animals (besides dog and cat) in the same house hold.

What do you mean that you have a concern because the cat should know it's own unique scent mark?

I'm not concerned about spraying or scratching, as mine do not spray and I know scratching is typical behavior. But thank you. I've posted my concern for the other animals in my house hold on rat and hamster forums and it seems as though it could be used without adverse effects on the other animals.

I had finches for awhile and the Feliway diffusers didn't bother them at all. It was the non-stick pans that you had to watch out for!

I just meant that it seems a cat wouldn't be calm with a smell made to mimic cat scent-markings since it is not their own unique scent being put out.

I didn't realize that there were different ones.  Mine says "Scratching + Urine Marking" but I was under the impression that that's what it's original purpose was but also applies to a variety of situation because of the calming effect.  I'm going to look into that further.

"Scratching + Urine Marking" Comfort Zone has worked miracles with the semi-feral that's living in my bedroom at the moment that I've been working with, and I know if it runs out because he will hiss and hide more, so I can attest that for at least this cat, it makes a big difference and has helped him tremendously by taking away a lot of his angst even within 24 hours of plugging it in.

Because I want to introduce him to my other four at some point, I also have the same diffuser in the living room, and have seen a mild difference in their interactions.  Less hissing between the two that tend to, and more mellow overall.

I wonder if it's just marketing differences rather than actual differences in the formula but I will look into the "Multicat" one to see if I should change it up.

Interesting....while the Comfort Zone/Feliway has had a drastic effect on my semi-feral, but only a mild effect on my four domesticated cats (although they weren't too terrible to start with--just these two that occasionally would hiss and swipe at each other), I might switch to the MultiCat for them to see if it makes even more of a difference.

Thank you @amandad  for raising my awareness of this.

COMFORT ZONE[emoji]174[/emoji] MULTICAT HOW IT WORKS

How is Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji]  MultiCat different from Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji]  products with Feliway[emoji]174[/emoji]?

The products contain two different types of pheromones that work differently. Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji] MultiCat is made with a synthetic version of a feline appeasing pheromone. Mother cats produce the feline appeasing pheromone during lactation to help kittens feel safe and secure after birth. Cats of all ages sense this pheromone, and it provides a calming effect that cats can recognize throughout life. Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji] MultiCat is clinically proven to reduce tension and conflicts between cats.  Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji] product with Feliway[emoji]174[/emoji] contains a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone that cats use to mark their territories.

Can Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji] diffuser with Feliway[emoji]174[/emoji] and Comfort Zone[emoji]174[/emoji] MultiCat diffusers be used together?

Yes. Each product works differently, and can be used together if there is urine marking or vertical scratching along with tension and conflict between cats in the home.

What are the signs that there is tension between my cats?

Overt signs of tension between cats include: Biting, hissing, growling, spitting, stalking, chasing or fleeing from other cats in the home. Cats that get along sometimes sleep near each other and may groom each other occasionally.

One more follow up....I found this review on Amazon under the Multicat one:

"Something odd is going on here. I have used Feliway in our house to keep our two cats 'calm' for a number of years now. I recently ordered Feliway refills to use with my diffusers. The product insert with the refills is for "Multicat." But looking at the insert, the "Multicat" formula is exactly the same as the regular formula, i.e., 2% synthetic facial pheromone, 48 ml. The diffusers I have look exactly like the "Multicat dffuser" pictured here. The only difference is that the "Multicat" branded diffuser costs 50% more than the good old regular diffuser.

What's the deal with this?"

So I will buy a Multicat one anyway and see for myself I guess.

Catsnip404, how has the Multicat formula worked for you?
I recently ordered some to try. We had previously used the "regular" Feliway diffusers as well as the spray, to some, but little, effect. We've finally let two of our three kitties go outside, to reduce tension, so they can get away from Zeke, who can be relentless in harassment of them. But with winter weather in Pennsylvania, Bilbo and Chloe are spending most of their time inside, and the conflicts and tension have increased again, along with spraying. Aaarrrggh!! [emoji]128550[/emoji]. So, I decided to try the Multicat formula, in the hope that this will be more effective than the regular formula. Has it helped your situation?

I had a mixup with the different varieties as well.  On Petco.com they had a good sale and the photo of the item showed Multicat, which I wanted, but I got the regular.  So I can't yet report on whether Multicat does anything noticeable for my two (who are not really fighting regularly or anything that I know of, but just have an occasional argument.  They have lived together all their lives.)

There actually IS a difference in the formulas, though, not just a sales job.  The regular should say feline facial pheromone.  The Multicat should say feline APPEASING pheromone.  If you got a feline facial hormone refill that is the normal Feliway and not the Multicat version.

Hi 2bcat
The ones I got, from Amazon, say "appeasing pheromones". It's only been a couple days, so I can't say for sure that it's helpful.

As I understand, cat's mark places where they have been by rubbing their face and paws on objects they encounter.

When they come back to something they have marked, they smell the scent and they know, "I've been here before."

When a cat scratches the sofa or other furniture or if he sprays urine on things, he's basically saying, "This is mine."

Feliway is just a substitute for the scent a cat puts on things when he scratches or rubs them.

So, when you spray Feliway on something, the cat smells it and, instead of trying to say, "This is mine," he thinks, "I've been here before."

If you use the diffuser instead of the spray, you simply flood the whole area with the scent that says, "I've been here before" so that the cat has no need to scent mark his territory anymore.

It's a deviously simple concept!  Isn't it?  ;)

OK, I started using the Multicat diffusers on February 22, 2016. It's now March 7, two weeks later. And I believe that there has been a noticeable improvement in the cat to cat interactions. Less hissing, less chasing, less pee. Yay!! I've got three diffusers in use. I used diffusers that I had previously used a couple years ago with the regular Feliway, to little noticeable effect. When I first plugged in the diffusers, they gave off a smell of burning plastic, even with no refill bottle plugged in. I wanted to make sure the old diffusers would work or if I needed to buy new ones. But after a few days, the smell went away completely. They seem to be operating just fine. I wonder why they say to replace the diffusers every 6 months? Probably to make more $$. Not buying new diffusers saved me quite a bit of $$. I would say the Multicat formula works for us while the regular Feliway did little.

Thanks for providing feedback.  I have a bully cat and the vet suggested Feliway years ago.  It works like a charm.  When I notice he starts becoming aggressive, I look and see they are empty and need a refill!  I never knew there were two kinds !!!  I'll have to make sure to try the multi-cat now, thanks.

I have a 9-year-old neutered female who has been the only cat for six years and is darned pleased about it. She saw no need for the arrival of our daughter's 2-year-old neutered male, a fluffy, furry Maine Coon who was becoming sick in the heat of Hawaii. Daughter is in the Coast Guard and can't move, so Mom and Dad took him into our mountain home, much cooler climate for the big furry boy, but terribly distressing to both cats.

Comfort Zone diffusers in the two rooms the cats are in most are crucial to our efforts to train these stubborn guys that they must coexist, even if they never get to be naptime buddies. The whole story of our adventure in convincing these knotheads that life will be easier for us all if they would just do it our way can be found in the thread "Oh, help! Can we fix a bad start?" I won't repeat it all here.

I am convinced that Comfort Zone is responsible for the small forward steps we've made. We have been at this since before Christmas and there was no real lessening of the anxiety and hostility radiating from both cats until about a wek ago, thre weeks into the first bottles of Comfort Zone. A package of refills arrived today. I don't plan to be without it for months to come.
