Hello Everyone!

This is Lily , a shelter rescue kitten 6 months old this week that I adopted ll days ago,

she has really blossomed and loves Bro 8 year  old male  cat and loves us.

Bro who lost his brother Peebo who was 9 years old due to a dog mauling and euthanization oct 27 has accepted Lily in the house...

Bro has not stopped meowing all night long and pacing to go outside, he loves the outdoors and spent most of his life

outside at night except on winter nights we brought Bro inside and peebo and also Leo

over the years. The calming collar has not worked so far...

putting in the bed with us has not worked..extra petting has not worked

a new kitten he likes has not worked ...

My question I thought I would never have to ask for opinions...

Lily has not been outside and it was 75 today and just beautiful...weather

I started to put a harnass on her and take her outside but I did not.

If Lily were to love the outdoors and run for the door and run past me

I could not leave her out for a while as I did for years the other cats...

due now to dogs, and coyotes and also a rare fatal snake bite.

How many of you have cats that have large windows to look out and plenty of home space

that have adjusted to not hunting and not watching the clouds, the insects in the grass,

and all the wonderful things out doors that humans enjoy and cats enjoy in nature, including the flowers in bloom...butterflys and more?

I would appreciate your sharing how you adjusted and the cats to feeling bad for not

letting a cat do what it was born to do, be outside and enjoy life...yet

due to other people not taking care of their animals...we now have to watch out for our

own and bring them inside to live...unless we are out side with them..

Hi Sheri,
I would not let her out at all. For her own saftey.
The boys were a little different because they came to you, & chose you, but came from & were familiar with the outside surroundings there. You don't want her to be a door dasher, & escape & run away.
She would be defenseless and lost. (Especially never having been out) Many kitties are perfectly happy inside, feeling safe & protected.
August was 4 yrs. that Angel has been inside only. I have much more piece of mind that way. We are too close to a busy road, and don't have to worry about his saftey otherwise, neighbors, etc.. And what he may injest. He got parasites once from something he ate, probably a bird, and had diarrhea for a whole month despite antibiotics & 2 rounds of probiotics from the vets!! Thanks to a knowledgeable and generous member here who sent me a wholistic chineese tincture that tonified, he finally had a solid poopy after a whole month!!
I wouldn't tempt her (or fate) by taking her out.
Now, if you want to put her in a large crate to sit outside while you guys are sitting outside as well enjoying the weather, that
might be nice for both of them, probably in separate crates for now
Though, until you actually see them cuddle, so you know they are OK in close proximity together. I would put them in the crate inside first, & then take it out, vs/ carrying them outside to put them in. Don't want to take any chances of a wiggle away & then runnaway.
