I have been ordering the canned Wellness sliced chicken from chewy.com for quite some time. I used to be able to get a 24 count case of the 3 oz. cans for $22.80, which is pretty good considering that it costs about $1.49 per can (plus tax) to buy it at the store. I could buy two cases plus a couple of bags of treats or a toy in order to spend $49.00 and get the free shipping. Now, however, the price of a 24 count case has gone up to $29.99. Since I usually buy two cases, I am now having to spend about an additional $14.00 per month, which is starting to add up. Any ideas on why the price would suddenly go up so much? Have all the prices on chewy.com gone up
or is Wellness just raising their prices? Were they sold to another company or something?

I will continue to order the food from chewy, since it is still (now slightly) cheaper than buying it at the store, but I hate it when this kind of stuff happens. I might just have to cut back on the canned food some and let my cats eat more dry.

I think it's Wellness that raised the price. $29.99 seems to be a decent price these days. That's what Amazon is getting for it and Petco is getting $30.40 unless you get the repeat delivery and then it's $28.60. Petsmart only lists the single 5.5 oz cans for $1.99. Wag.com is getting $32.99 and Petfooddirect gets $33.27.

I agree with the above. It's more likely that Wellness has raised their prices. I know Wellness partnered with Chewy for a food donation (buy a bag of food, Wellness donates 2 meals...), so I wonder if prices were raised either due to supply and demand, or to cover the cost of this promotion.

I think its Wellness who raised their prices.  It happened a few months ago because I remember others talking about it here.   It is frustrating.

Chewy is very good.  I order from them and Amazon and the latter is definitely more frustrating.  Their prices change constantly, the items they have available for subscribe and save change constantly.    Always have to check my orders before they ship.

It doesn't have anything to do with Chewy its Wellness raising prices. They did it with some of their other foods too. Personally, I don't think Wellness is worth the price.

I agree on all counts. Chewy raised the price on Nutro Natural Choice, too, though it wasn't that huge a jump!

As for Wellness, I tend to think some of their Core and grain-free foods are the best because a lot of their others are higher-carb, plus I try to avoid carrageenan. Of course I do buy an occasional can of their Core kitten food as a treat for our young adult cats (they love it) and would gladly buy them Wellness over any number of other canned foods! Buying cat food always seems to involve compromise.

Yeah their Kitten is pretty good. I used to buy it for my kittens but then they stopped eating it
One of my cats loved their minced tuna ( it was the only wet she'd eat, but now she's eating FF). I stopped buying it because I didn't think it was worth the price at all.

I agree that Wellness may not be the very best food out there, but it is a higher quality than some of the other foods, and for now, it is what I must keep feeding. Believe me, I have tried just about every expensive top of the line food there is and have tried to avoid carageenan. However, the Wellness sliced chicken is the only canned food that (at least for now) BOTH of my cats will eat and not turn their noses up at and that my IBD kitty will eat AND keep down. My IBD cat seems to stop tolerating certain foods after a while. I usually have to change foods once it stops working, but they have been going strong with the Wellness sliced chicken (the turkey and salmon get puked up) for about the past six months, which is a new record. The carrageenan is pretty far down the list--about the twentieth ingredient or so, so hopefully they are not getting too much of it.

That's great, pretty amazing even, that you've been able to settle on that food for so long. I'd be buying it by the case, too!

CORE is a pretty good food as usually the first 3 to 5 ingredients are some source of meat protein. The Original formula and Kitten formula look to be the best, whereas the Turkey and Duck seems to be the, for lack of better word, "worst" CORE formula in terms of the previous sentence.

Wellness has to packaging facilities (or at least did), I think one is in Central region of North America and the other on the east coast. One packaging facility was horrible in their quality of work and the other was very "up to par". Most of the time, animals receiving food from the east coast facility would start to refuse their food. What also has been true, pet parents have found mold on their canned food from the east coast facility. Another separate occasion with a different pet parent, they had two cans of Wellness chicken for cat (wispy kitty pink label) one was very settled and just unappetizing looking while the other was fine. Guess where the unappetizing one came from.

Anyway, I think Wellness, Nature's Variety Instinct, and Halo are well worth their prices. My kitties can't eat the Healthy Indulgence pouches because it makes their tummies upset, but they can eat the original cans (wispy colored labels). I haven't tried the TruFood, Purple label ones, Duos, or CORE cans though. I will on my next wet food purchase trip
