My cat peach I heard chewing something and I looked and there was a paracetamol tub open. I don't know what she was chewing on but it sounded like the lid and there was apparently only one paracetamol left in there but I'm worried about her. Mum won't take her to the vets and I don't know what to do in worried anyone can you help?

It's been 3 hours and she's fine we're not sure she's eaten it but how long will it take to show symptoms do you know

I don't know exactly how long it will take for symptoms to show, but it really is a HUGE risk to wait and hope. Sometimes by the time symptoms start showing the damage is too great to repair.

Really you need to take veterinary advice. If your mum doesn't want to take Peach in, try to get her to speak to a vet on the phone. They can advise you of what course of action is best.

It's 7:20pm where we are on a Sunday so the vets isn't open as we live in a rural area in England. My mum is certain she didn't eat one which is why she won't take her because there was one paracetamol in the tub and when she got to it there was still only one in there and it sounded like she was chewing on the lid but I don't know what to do

I'm in the uk too.

Was the paracetamol in a child proof container? Was the lid still in place when you found Peach with the meds?

If all else fails, call poison control and ask them how long it would take for symptoms to appear if a cat ate one.  They should be able to help you, although in the United States, they DO charge for their services.

Update now peach is still fine and we've rang several help lines including emergency vets who have said that if she hasn't eaten meds just licked them she should be fine but to keep an eye on her so we are doing the lid was off but the paracetamol was at the bottom of the bottle and peach was playing with the lid.

That's good to hear. :cross: that alk she bothered with was the lid. I'm glad you were able to speak to some experts about this :D

For the future - if she likes meds bottles it might be worth keeping a note (updated when necessary) of the number of pills in each bottle. That way you'll be able to tell if she HAS eaten anything she shouldn't ;)

She's doing fine I slept in the kitchen with them both tonight so I could monitor her. No vomiting or any other signs. Only woken up twice after peach attacked her sister. She's very playful this morning which is a good sign so I'm hopeful she hasn't had any of the paracetamol not even a lick, but this has been a scare which will make me more aware about what's around the house she could get hold off. Will keep everyone updated :)
