I used to have all of my shopping done by Thanksgiving. This year I haven't even thought about it. :dk:

Nope, no shopping for me yet. I really need to get on that. I've been kinda busy expanding my family the last few days though so I think it's ok that I'm getting a later-than-normal start.

Does that mean congratulations are in order?

Ha, well, we adopted a second Chihuahua today :) and have begun the adoption process for another kitty. Have never ever in my entire life gotten a cat through a shelter so it weirds me out a bit. Cats always seem to have found me rather than the other way around.

So yeah, shopping got put on the back-burner a bit.

I'm on medical leave so funds are tight this year.  I'm only buying one gift and that is for my brother and his wife. And it's a lot less than what I would normally spend.  I'm giving them the gift of Netflix. I'm increasing my subscription from being able to view on a single device at a time, to being able to view on multiple devices. And I bought them a Chromecast device for their television so they can watch Netflix on their TV.  They like to watch movies and TV shows, so I figure it will be an appreciated gift.

I've discussed gift giving this year with my friends and asked if any of them minded if we didn't exchange presents this year. None of them did.  In fact I suspect they were probably as relieved as I am considering how expensive gift giving can get.

I'm not as prepared this year...the holidays have really snuck up on me this year. But, we usually start after Thanksgiving. Not on Black Friday though! No thanks on that.
I'll probably start for the pets next week since I haven't gotten any ideas what my family wants yet!

We don't exchange with friends anymore either. It's gotten to be too much. One of my GFs gives me a free subscription to Prevention; we give them a subscription to Garden Gate. And that's it. We don't exchange anything with any other friends.

We still have to buy for my brother and SIL (a gift card to Dunkin' Donuts -- I swear they live at that place) and something for my sister and BIL. Not sure what to do for them. We always give them a nice wheel of baby Swiss from our local cheesemaker to serve with their Christmas dinner and a bottle of good wine for their New Year's Eve. I don't know what else to do for them this year. I'm considering a gift card to their favorite pizza place, as strange as that may sound. But they get pizza there almost every week.

Well congratulations are certainly in order. All my cats came from shelters except the twoI have now. Whisky is an abandoned siamese and blighty came off the streets.

A locally made gift similar to the local cheese you had given in the past? I know around here there are lots of local artisans who make baked goods, kitchen items, cheese, pasta, linens, etc. If you're in the US, you can see if there's a local Edible Community in your area and check out the online ads for local artisans in the local magazine: http://www.ediblecommunities.com/content/ Even if there isn't a local magazine, you can browse around the other magazines and sometimes an artisan has an online shop. The list is way at the bottom of the page. Holiday craft shows that feature local artisans are also a good place to find gifts.

I'm  not physically able to do much shopping so I just send money to my nieces  and nephews. I really do miss Christmas shopping for everyone.

If you use Amazon, you can add their address to your account and have gifts shipped directly to them. They even gift wrap for a few dollars extra if you want.

The overseas gifts were sent last week, and our nieces and nephews will be getting gift cards so they can choose something they really want/need. The in-laws are getting homemade candy. I did some online Black Friday shopping, and rather than get something for my husband, I bought myself two pairs of my favorite jeans (60% off, so too good to pass up). I did find something for him, but won't order it till mid-December - he's been known to snoop, and the longer he has to do it, the bigger the chance he'll find his gift. :lol3:

I never think about Christmas before Thanksgiving. I hate that we skip over a holiday to get to the buying frenzy.  That said, I did order some DVDs from Amazon, and I'm not giving out much this year because money is tight for everyone.

Well, I did some shopping yesterday on Amazon. Still need to figure out things for a few folks. Like the person that said in a gift exchange to check out her Amazon wish list, and there is like one $3 thing on there.

Mom and I are donating to the V.A.L.O.R. program at a local rescue organization as our gifts to each other. It trains rescue dogs (of all - including mixed - breeds) to be companion animals to veterans with issues like PTSD. Yep, lotsa warm fuzzies with that one.

I still need to shop for my kitties and doggies. Sad to not be shopping for the one :/ but trying to focus on the others for now.

Such an awesome program! What a great gift idea.

We bought obedience classes for my BIL and SIL for their new German Shepherd. My MIL recieved her gift already because all of the kids pitched in and bought her a new range. We have adult children and they like cold hard cash. I will do presents for all our four legged grandbabies. My furbabies get stockings. Hubby and I usually do a household gift we both use.

Thanks! It was my mom's idea. She had originally said the Wounded Warriors Project, but after some research I decided to keep it to something local. And I've been really big into animal-related charities (shelters, etc) this past year. She also approved and so, we went with that one.

Last year was the first year I did stockings for the fur-babies. I gave them all a collective stocking since they all share everything anyway, so will probably do that same. Also did stocking for my mom last year (she was sooooo surprised!) with a bunch of stupid-but-practical travel-type items.

My MIL always does "goodie bags." She picks up things all year and we each get a bag. They are practical everyday items. Dish soap, razors, I have recieved wrinkle cream every year since I have been 21. I guess I won't need botox! The bags are better than any of the other presents!
