Hello.

So I have 2 kittens (nearly a year old) Hastpurr and Yibb-ten. One thing I've noticed is whenever Yibb-ten finds a receipt or small piece of plastic she tends to turn her possessive over it. She runs around with it in her mouth and hiss at me or Hastpurr if either of us get close. While she hasn't really attacked me when I get it away from her, there been a few times shes clawed at me or gives really angry hissing sounds. As soon as I take the object away though she goes back to normal.

I figure she thinks the object is her kill and she is protecting it, but also figure it is a bad thing her carrying around small pieces of plastic she somehow finds. So any advice on changing this behaviour or what to do in this situation. At least Hastpurr has the good sense to stay away from her when she is like this.

You named her Yibb, what do you expect?

Ahh... you remind me of a CoC game I played in once, my poor character managed to acquire the epithet 'Beloved of Nyarlethotep.'  It turns out life really sucks and doesn't last long when you attract elder gods.

The only thing I can think of though is to do your best to keep small things out of her reach. I have to do this with Sinbad and Tempest - she steals anything she gets her paws on, and he has a penchant for trying to play with or eat dangerous things.

Does she get tired of her 'kills' on her own?  Or guard them indefinitely?

Well, I have no advice worth giving, but in keeping with Losna's post, I will say that there is power in names.  I mean, Hekitty is named in honor of Hekate, and it definitely shaped her personality!

Oh...found this in my files, and thought you'd appreciated it.  It would make a cute photo for your profile.  Use it if you would like.

I think the best thing to do is find a toy (or treat) Yibb goes crazy for and use it as a trade - she gets the favourite item in return for giving up the receit/plastic.

Nobody said having a kitten would be easy.... ;) :catguy:

Yoinking that image for my avatar. Honestly so far been pretty disappointed how few people get the kittens name :(. The other names I was toying with would have been Purrsula and Meowicent :D Yibb-ten isn't really like the description of Yibb-tstll (well aside from wanting/being the center of attention and wanting to be able to see you at all times....damnit)

Not sure if she ever gets tired of playing with her stolen "kill", usually she runs around with it pretty hectically while growling at me and her sister if we get close. Usually I wait until she gets tired and just grab her and take it away. Have had no luck trying to distract or trade her with other toys or treats.
