Will a cat pee in the same shower he drinks his water from?? I have three cats - a 10yo male, 7yo male and 7yo female. The 10yo has always drank water from the faucets and loves to lay and lounge in the bathtub. Lately, one of our cats has been peeing in random places: my son's toddler chair and our couch. Since we covered/took away those items and closed of the bedrooms, I noticed one of them peed in the shower this morning. I'm not sure who though. I know it wasn't the 7yo male, and I suspect it's the 7yo female but can't be sure. It could be the 10yo male, but again, he had JUST finished drinking from the shower faucet maybe 5 minutes before. We just took the 7yo male to the ER last week and spend $500 to find out there was nothing wrong and now I think I've been blaming the pee on the wrong cat! :( HELP

Also - the female has been very territorial, more so lately. Growling, hissing, screaming when the boys try to play or come close to her. And she's always pooped outside of the litter box when it was full but now she is just flat out pooping in other random spots. I'm at my wits end with this poor cat. She seems miserable and now I think it's even worse :( Is it terrible to think about euthanizing to spare her any more discomfort and misery??? I just feel like she's so unhappy and that's no way to live :( :(

I really hope you don't put a cat down for this reason. She might have a UTI and that could be easily treated. Also, it seems like you don't know for sure who the culprit is. Can you sequester one in a room for a few days (making sure they have litter and food) then you might be able to determine who the naughty kitty is. It sounds like a medical issue. Did you change anything in the house? I had a friend whose cat started doing this when she was pregnant, I guess the cat sensed something was different and was upset by it.

I may have missed it, but are all of your cats fixed? If not, it would be something you really should consider. And if that is the case, it may help solve some problems you are having.

Sudden changes can be caused by various issues, so I agree with Zed Xyzed. A vet trip for the female might be in order so they can run some tests.

First find out which cat is going all over the place. Then figure out why. Please don't give up.

My cat growing up used to pee in the sink when you were there and sure enough she would have a UTI and that's how she showed us. I hope that she gets well soon. I bet it's a UTI take her to the vet or if you can get an appointment at the humane society..usually they are much less $$ than the private vet but if she's really uncomfortable if it's her...u may wanna go ASAP!! I'm sorry for your baby. Get well soon!!! [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Yes all 3 are spayed/neutered. I should mention that Abbey (female) and her twin brother Matteo were rescues that I brought back from Italy 6 years ago. Both were abandoned by their mother and nearly dead when I found them. They have never had the best health, nor are they fond of vet vists (note: they MUST be sedated for a standard check up) which is why I've diagnosed a lot based on my previous experience and knowledge of animals. I realize now that the tone of my original post suggested something colder, but I would never put an animal down unless there was a last-resort type of reason. However, I also don't feel it's right to allow an animal to live in misery (emotional or medical) when all options have been exhausted. I should have been more clear that I'm just upset and wondering if anyone has dealt with this. I apologize!!

In order for me to figure out who the offender is, my original question is that I want to know if it's normal for cats to pee where they also lounge and drink? To my knowledge, they normally don't pee where their water source is, but wondered if anyone has experienced this? We're watching all 3 very closely. Our house is small, so I can basically follow them into the bathroom (only room open right now) to catch them in the act.

Thank you for advising a vet visit! I'm going to schedule one for Monday, and I already have some antibiotic on hand in case we need it. Thanks so much again!!

Aww I didn't think you sounded cold at all. You obviously love your kitties very much that your writing about it to see if anyone has had a similar issue. And I did!!! Except we only had one cat and she would show you and do it in front of you. So it's not as easy with 3!!! As soon as you know who it is your half way there!!! Hopefully that is the problem and the antibiotic will fix the problem quickly!! best of luck and happy holidays to you and the babies!!! When I was pregnant my cat was ok...when I brought the baby home ...ugh poop at the front door every morning and I did the thing with the baby blanket. My husband would bring the blanket from the baby home for the cat to smell in the days before we brought the baby home. But even stil my cat wasn't happy. She eventually starting peeing too and the box was always clean she just was annoyed w the baby. I had to deal with it for so many years. My daughter is 12 now and Macy got sick w diabetes and lost use of her back legs it was awful. Anyway we moved and all brand new carpets and I SWORE never would I own another cat. Well I now have 3 and a dog. And knock wood everyone is happy and uses the litter and I pray we stay this way. I know I won't dare bring in any new animals. Leaving well enough alone!! LOL. but yes I believe a pregnancy can definitely cause some naughty behavior!!! They are too smart these cats!! I love them so much because of how awesome they are even when they're bad!!! [emoji]128528[/emoji] Amazing creatures they are!!!! [emoji]128522[/emoji][emoji]128522[/emoji][emoji]128522[/emoji]

I agree that a visit to the vet is in order.  Maybe you can bring the two you haven't had checked?

How many litter boxes do you have, and how often do you scoop them?

I would consider rehoming her before euthanizing.  Being a single cat in a home without children could be the best option for her.

No, you're not cold - just worried.  Like has been said, try to isolate the cats over a period of time to find out who is peeing outside the box.  It is always wise for a check up whe you get the 'right' cat.

As to peeing where the water source is, I think this is more complicated.  I have known of cats who pee in the shower.  They are just clever.  The shower drain probably also has some smells there (especially if there has been pee), perhaps unnoticable to a human, that indicate it to the cat as a good place to go.  And the drain is completely different to the faucet, so technically, they are not peeing in/on the water source.

Re possible UTI and antibiotic.  My understanding is that unless the infection is tested for,  just any antibiotic is irrelevant to recovery.  It must be specific to the infection present.  Here's some reading on UTI/Urinary health stuff from a vet which will be very useful http://www.catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth

Now, you also mention a few behaviours across your cats that seem to indicate that the level of cat stress is high.  Stress busters, and creating a home where the cats are not stressing each other, will help across the board (including your level of worry!).  Have a really good read of this blog for insight into cats, and how to destress your catas and cat household.  I have found this blog to be a saviour for various situations I have had.  Scroll down the right hand side until you get to a menu to help you better target the areas you want ot read up on: http://www.wayofcats.com/blog/

My dad's cat pees in the bathtub regularly. And poops, too. I guess he just doesn't want to use the same box as his sister.  I think he likes that his pee disappears, too, he pees right at the drain. Do you only have one litter box?

Drinking from the faucet is sometimes a sign of kidney or urinary tract issues. And so is peeing in abnormal places. So it's possible it's the same cat...

Thanks for the explanation.  I figured you were just very frustrated and venting.  I do that too sometimes :)

I know there is a saying "don't [pee] where you eat" or something similar but I think it applies to humans.  However, it'd be worth a try to see if it's true with your cats!  Like maybe start with treats on the bed?  Hopefully they all like the same kind of treats equally so you can test this theory.  Maybe you could try some cat nip on the bed too while they are up there.
