Just wondering what my former cat's breed may have been.

He was small, and about 11 pounds. He lived until 14 until he began to slow down. He loved me to pieces and I went out of town for a 6 week stretch to work, and when I came back he was gone. (I live at home with my brothers and parents).

Anywho, here are some pictures of him. He was gorgeous, and I have never seen another cat with his specific facial pattern. I always see cats with the white triangle between the eyes, or over the eyes, but never outside the edges of the eyes like Jazzman had.

Thanks for your help :)

Perhaps somewhat alike an norwegian forest cat,  NFC.   Was he biggish?  Purebred norwegians are noticeably bigger than an average cat.

The extremely fluffy long hair and the ear tufts look like a Main Coon or a Norwegian Forest Cat. I believe there are differences in their average face structures, but I don't know them very well. Where do you live? The  NFC is the most popular purebred in some areas, and is the most common purebred to be found as strays or in shelters in my area. I think the Main Coon is quite popular in at least some parts of the US, but I don't know what the actual numbers are. Also both the Main Coon and Norwegian Forest Cats are land breeds or natural breeds - the populations naturally spread into the breed instead of being purely artificially selected.

Hey you guys, thanks for replying.

I live in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia.

He was small, because we had another cat that was exactly like him but twice his size, definitely a Main Coon but with the straight black and white pattern. This other cat we got was called Oliver, he was HUUGE! Jazzman was about a foot and a quarter in length from hind to nose (not including tail), but Oliver had to have been over two feet long from hind to nose.

So he looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat? He was rather small to be of Main Coon, however he was the Runt of his litter. :)

Thank you guys!

Well Norwegian Forest Cats are also quite large, much like Maine Coons. They're very similar breeds that developed in similar climates but different parts of the world. If he was small, he might have been a domestic longhair who's a lookalike, as they say. I just rarely see the ear tufts on non-specific longhairs. I guess he could still have been a Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat and just been a runt. I have a friend with 3 NFCs, two of whom are very big for housecats and the third of whom is a lot smaller than the other two, maybe large end of average for housecats.
