UPDATE: They were roundworms, and Spot received medication. He's doing well so far.
Hello to all the users, I'm a new user here. I guess I'll start off my first post with this. Spot is my kitten who is around 4 months old. He LOVES playing with rubber bands so I made sure to store them in places where he won't find them. A few days prior (2 days ago perhaps), Spot was making gagging noises and he threw up, but nothing actually came out, it was just some sort of foamy residue left on the carpet. After this, he plays well, he sleeps well and eats well. Today, however, he gagged the same way as he did before, and he threw up, same foam like residue, but along came out something that looks either like a worm, or a rubber band. I THINK it is a rubber band, just coiled up, but it kind of moved a bit at first so I thought it may have been a dead worm of some sort, but I'm PRETTY sure it's a rubber band. Anyway, after this, he's still eating normally (I feed him wet canned food, and of course, water is out for him 24/7). He doesn't seem to be in pain or seem to be sick or anything, but I'm not sure if I should take him to the vet. I'll post some pictures of what he threw up. I'm not sure if this is a common thing for cats to do.

Worked? I assume you mean if he's had his vaccines and checkups for worms etc. He has, yes.

Sorry, autocorrect. Has he been wormed? It usually takes three treatments to get them all.

It looks like a worm to me from the photo. I don't know why a rubberband would be coiled so tightly.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be calling the vet anyway just to make sure, but I just wanted to get more opinions of whether this was a worm or not because I wasn't 100% sure.

Yeah, cats can act pretty normal even with worms. If he's throwing them up it means he has a lot though. Your vet can advise on the best treatment.

I'm not sure what type of worm this one maybe? I know there are tapeworms, roundworms, etc. Would any of these be immediately life threatening? I'm looking up pictures of worms and I'm still not 100% sure if this is just coiled up rubber band or a worm. But closest picture makes it look like a roundworm to me.

Likely roundworms. Did you save the sample? I would in a bag. A piece of rubber band wouldn't be coiled; that's the big hint to me. Can be life threatening if the infestation gets too big, but he should be fine as long as he gets treatment soon.

I didn't save the sample, unfortunately. Spot was trying to eat it again, and my mom panicked and picked it up right afterwards and threw it into the toilet when I was done taking pictures and looking it over. The vet I usually go to is closed today likely for thanksgiving, so I will immediately give a call tomorrow and make an appointment if needed.

So just as an update, I took Spot to the vet and he did, indeed, have roundworms. He was given a medication for it and I'll have to repeat it within 2 weeks to make sure it's all gone. He's doing fine right now, so thanks for the advice. :)

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I thought it over and it just sounded like the right thing to do regardless if it was a worm or not. Your advice helped solidify the decision.
