Found a facebook post about a cat that was abandoned by its owners. Poor baby left in front yard crying to go back into the only home she ever knew, but owners were long gone. Horrible people. Rescued by Naples Cat Alliance. Her name is "Mystery". All black - she had severe allergies to mosquitoes and her little nose was raw and underarms missing fur. Paul and I fell in love with her face and I e-mailed the rescue facility. Had a chat on the phone with the rep. She is safe at their no-kill shelter and being treated. Around 3 years old they think. After thinking about it I feel it wouldn't be fair to our 3, who are getting up there in age, especially Tony with his auto-immune illness the last 8 months. And Angel hates all cats (she only loves Paul). Tippy would probably be super jealous if I even touched another cat. And then I thought it wouldn't be fair to the new cat to be placed in that situation after all the trauma she has been through. Paul wanted to go to their facility and "meet Mystery". I knew that would be dangerous as once I saw her I'd probably want to take her home.

Do you think we made the right decision?

Yes. My four live in perfect harmony. My oldest has IBS and any changes or stressors cause him to flare. I work with a TNR group and the local shelter. I donate and help where ever I can. I am not willing to risk the health or happiness of my babies no matter how I would like too.

Yes, I agree, as much as you would love to help her, all your points make sence. Because she's at a rescue, I'm sure they will find the "puurrfect" home for her.:)

Awwww now I want to adopt her!! :( Ugh, this is why I make myself stay off animal rescue sites. I'm a sucker for a sad story!

I think you made a wise decision. Mystery is safe at the no-kill shelter so there's no need to worry too much. Maybe you can ask to donate a few dollars a month to Mystery to help her along in recovery.
