I have a stray kitty on my back porch. I took him to the vet yesterday, and they said he has a URI, and gave him Clavamox which I've been giving him twice a day. This evening, however, I noticed he is very congested, has dried snot on his nose, and is breathing through his mouth. I took some "tearless" pet wipes and cleaned his nose, and he immediately sneezed out a bunch of snot, but is still breathing through his nose. His appetite is great, though I'm not sure how much he's drinking from the bowl I put out there. He's incredible sweet and lets me do whatever to him (except take his temp...). Is there anything else I can do for him to help him decongest? I can't bring him because I have other cats and I can't pass this to them. He's got an old carrier out there, with a blanket and he loves sleeping in that. The vet closed early today, and will be closed tomorrow for the holiday, so I can't take him there. :-(

Basically the clavamox has started to help break loose the junk accumulated in his head, but what you can do is contain him in a carrier or crate and set him in a steamed up bathroom for 15 or so minutes a couple/few times a day until he can get this cleared out.

There is also what's called Little Noses, a nasal spray saline solution that helps temporarily.

The best way with that though is to suck it out with a nose aspirator if possible.

Watch for the side effects of clavamox, diarrhea and vomiting.  It doesn't happen in every cat, but those are the two most common side effects.

To help with the breathing, steam him in the bathroom like catwoman suggested and also the Little Noses saline drops.  Be sure to get the drops, not the nasal spray.  Just put one drop in each nostril 2-3 times a day.  You can also run a vaporizer for him, just like you would for a baby.

I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner! I've been giving the kitty (I refuse to name him, lol) his clavamox twice a day, and there doesn't seem to be any side affects from it. His appetite is beyond great and no vomiting. I tried the steam thing, but he didn't like the sound of the loud shower. I tried the humidifier, too, but he's still really congested. I'm going to call the vet in the morning and see if they can prescribe something for it.

I appreciate all the advice! ^_^

No problem!

Try getting the bathroom well steamed up before putting him in there, turn the shower off.

Just let him bask in the warm steam for a bit :)
