A few years ago, we found a 5-6 week old kitten hiding in a drainage ditch in a large parking lot and adopted her. Salome was very small and flea infested but she was simply adorable, like all kittens seem to be. As she grew up I used to use a few different color lasers for her (and the other resident felines) to chase after, as we have a large living room and there was room for full bore running. She would zip along after the laser, back and forth until she got worn out.

A few night ago I discovered one of the lasers and Salome saw it on the floor. Like before, she chased after it, back and forth. While she was running, the laser stopped working but Salome kept running back and forth...it seems she remembered chasing the laser even when she couldn't always see it all of the time. she didn't see it after it stopped working but figured it would show up again...so she kept running. After about 5 trips back and forth, she finally stopped and began to look for it and then looked at me, waiting for the fun to start again. It has been close to a year since she last played with the laser and I was surprised to see her remember the game so well...even when it wasn't working right!

First thank you for adopting her, she's lucky to have you in her life. Cats remembers even it's been long time, how cute that Salome chasing and running after the lasers and having fun :-)

My previous cat remembers her favorite toy that I kept in a box, one day while I was cleaning (general cleaning) she saw her old tiny teddy bear and she played with it for few minutes and even slept with. I was laughing because wow it's been long time she didn't see it and yet she was playing like same way before. Right there, I knew that cat has good memory and they remembers.

Thanks for sharing your story, it brings back the happy moments of my girl :-)

The cat I had in my single adult years, a white longhair spay, remembered a bowl I used to eat cereal out of in my first apartment. Whenever I took that bowl out of the cupboard, she would rear up and plant her paws on the front of the cabinet, knowing that milk would soon appear out of the fridge. In my second apartment I had stopped eating cereal, so when I pulled out that bowl one day for something, several years after I stopped bothering with cereal, Boom,  there were her paws against the cabinet!

They have longer memories than we think.
