I left yesterday, to come home for a 2 week vacay, and have a friend staying at my place so Murray isn't alone.

He is still in hiding when my friend is there, and hasn't eaten really anything. I hope he gets used to my friend being there soon!

He's at least used the litter box.

I'm sorry to hear Murray is stressed at the moment. Some cats find changes more difficult to handle than others.

Tell your friend to make sure food is available overnight - shy cats are most likely to come out and eat at night while the people are sleeping. It's important that Murray keeps eating - cats do NOT do well without adequate food intake. Even a couple of days without food can make them sick.

Feliway is a great way to help create a soothing environment for him, so getting some diffusers going would be a good idea. Interactive play can also increase a cat's confidence, so that might be worth a go too.

Well he finally was eating and then also finally came out of hiding yesterday! Ate some treats from my friend and didn't run from him. He always has food overnight too :) He was even sitting by my friend!

He finally also let my friend pet him today, but Murray pounced at my friend's jacket strings (Murray loves them), and my friend got scared and screamed, sending Murray back into hiding. I told him he'd be fine and to try some treats, and talk to him in a low, soothing voice, just so he can remember that my friend is NOT going to hurt him.

I do miss him though :(

Great that Murray's gaining confidence....but not so great that he spooked your friend

Yeah - its rough being away from our furkids. At least you'll be reunited before too long.
