My cat is 10 she sleeps all day and at a certain time at night she starts crying and running around and acts crazy. I get up from my sleep and I give her treats. But she still runs around like a crazy cat. She eats and does her poo and Pee so there is no problem with that. She keeps looking outside the window as if there is something there. I bought her toys but she does not play with them at all. I now keep a light on for her in the kitchen. Just don't no what to do. She is driving me and my husband crazy.

Interactive play is a great way to help cats burn off their energy at appropriate times. That's the first thing I'd try, I think.

Given her age, I really would recommend a vet check too though - especially if this is a new (or relatively new) behaviour. It's just possible there's an underlying physical cause. I know thyroid issues can trigger this kind of behaviour, so I'd just want to be sure she has a clean bill of health.[article="22303"][/article][article="0"][/article][article="0"][/article]

I'll reinforce that...at her age, vet check.  She's middle-aged for an indoor cat now, and things can start to creep in.  If she has a clean bill of health, a good, hard play session right before you go to bed with one of those toys on a stick and string...play her hard.  Make her pant.

The other thing that struck me is that you mentioned her looking intently out of the window.  You may have a new outdoor, stray or feral cat in the neighborhood that is patrolling your house at about the same time every night.  This will cause that as well.  There are all sorts of territorial issues that can crop up, and cats are all about territory!

And...look, there is a brand of cat toy named "The Midnight Crazies."  There is a reason they named their product that.  The play session, if she is healthy, will help.

As Mamanyt1953 said, there is probably a stray cat prowling the neighborhood!

Next time this happens, secure your cat in another room so she doesn't bolt out the door (be very careful picking her up to move her though. If there IS another cat outside, she might present some redirected aggression and 'attack' you. It would be best to just lure her to another room with treats). Then, go outside and bang a couple tin pie pans together and hisssss to scare the stray away. You might not see it, but it will see/hear you. A couple or few nights of chasing the stray should keep it at bay because he will realize he is invading your turf.

Mind you, I just had visions of a woman in a tattered robe and rollers in her hair traipsing through the front yard at 3:00 A.M. banging pie tins together and hissing like crazy and I had to chuckle - but, do what you have to do to shoosh the stray off your turf.I am betting there is a 98% chance that is the problem.

Good luck -- and, you might want to warn your neighbors ahead of time so they don't call the police! LOL

Thank you for all your advice. It has been a full moon. That could.be it but I forgot to tell everyone that I have another cat that was a feralfor 8 years and he finally came in the house and has been in the house now for about 8 months. He is such a good boy and they were getting along very well. Not the best of friends but they were good. Could that be why he has the night cRazy s

Possibly.  Did it start right after the feral de-feraled himself and decided that housecat status was a good deal?  If it did, then it might have started the habit...but after eight months?  That would be a stretch.

Get a feather on a string on a stick, and wear him out right before bed.  Get him panting.  Feed, play, bed.  That might do the trick.
