My four month kitten eats one and a half 5.5 oz of wet food a day. Is it to much? I can see that she is getting chubby. I've been browsing the cat nutrition websites and most of them saying that a grown up cat have to eat one can of wet food per day. But all of the websites said that kitten have to eat twice as more as grownup cat. What do you think my fellow cat lovers?

I don't think that's too much for a 4 month old kitten to be honest, she needs the calories. How many times a day are you feeding her and what brand/s of wet food? Are you feeding her dry, too?

No. I only give her wet canned food.

Remember she's still got some growing to do. What you're feeding sounds fine to me. If you're really concerned you can always ask your vet what they think of her weight and how much food she needs.

Kittens do eat a lot! And canned foods have highly varying calorie content. What are you feeding her? Foods with high protein and low carbohydrates (more meat, no grains, potato, or peas) might be most likely to fill her up. I agree with Columbine about checking with the vet if you think she's gained too much weight.

I also noticed that your handle is "rescuedkitty": if your kitten was underfed when you got her, she may still be having food anxieties. We went through that with our cats--they were ten months old and very undersized when we adopted them--and it took them some time to even out their food consumption, though one still has a tendency to eat too fast, even two years later.

My cat is crazy about food, and is on a special diet because of an illness he had. (Hes better now). When he was a kitten he ate quite a lot of food, but i also fed him half a can of wet (other half was his brothers) and fed him some dry food.

Today he eats a half can of wet, and still carries his desire for food.

For your cat, it seems okay. Like everyone else has said, she is growing! My cat as a kitten was found in the streets and his lack of food then is what i believe made him so ferocious about food, and he still eats it super fast. He used to steal his brothers, but we have stopped that finally.

actually 1/2 can a day for a 4 month old kitten doesn't sound like enough to me. i let my little ones eat as much as they want until about 6 months.

Have you also had her wormed? Having a belly full of worms can also make a kitten's stomach appear bloated.

I agree with the others that doesn't sound like 'too much' food to me. You said your kitten looks fat, but kittens are rapidly growing so I don't know that you can judge 'fat' at this point. I feed my kittens as much as they want, and that's usually a LOT of food per day.

Kittens are growing and exploring and using a HUGE amount of energy - it's really OK to feed them as much as they want to eat!

Just like humans kids transitioning from kids --> teens --> adults, your cat's body will go through phases and changes, fat will redistribute, etc.

If you haven't already, make sure to de-worm your kitten - as someone said above, worms can create a pot-bellied appearance - worming/vaccines should all be part of normal kitten vetting.

And it also keeps them hungry, since the parasites, not the kitten, are getting the lion's share of the nutrients.

also, kittens usually need to be wormed more than once. 3x might be necessary..
