Most of the boxes will be prepaid flat rate.  I do this every year.
If you pay the postage online and print out the labels for them, you can schedule a pickup online and your carrier will come them from your doorstep. It's a free service. I do that sometimes when I send things to DD at school. I get the package ready the night before and schedule the pickup for the next day.

Survive? (sorry)

I suspect a whole load of us can identify with this one!
   Including me.

For this week I aim to:

Finish wrapping Christmas gifts that need shipping abroad.

Get  above gifts to post office and sent off.

Clean and tidy the sitting room that has been taken over with Christmas gift 'stuff' for the past few weeks.

Clean my apartment, esp my room, as I didn't do it thoroughly last week and it's a mess.

Seemingly endless laundry....

Work 4 days.

Volunteer at a local charity store for an afternoon.

Visit my mother after work on Sunday.

Oh, and go get my hair cut on Thursday.

Then, come next Monday I will collapse in a heap like I usually do.

The post office in the next town actually get things places faster.  Probably because it is a much bigger town.  When I ship to my son in Bozeman MT my post office takes a week.  No cookies for him!  I took a box to the other post office in August because it was open later and the box arrived in 2 days!

Walking in it

Driving in it

Removing it from walkways, driveways and sidewalks

Slush

Black Ice

Regular ice

Sleet

The cold

The biting wind

Cold, wet feet

Cold face and hands

Having to bundle up

Putting salt down and then having it get all over everything

My friend here says it best

You forgot to mention:

Digging your car out
Scraping it off the car
Frozen car locks
Constant mopping of the entryway
Being home-bound when it's bad out
Power lines go down
Idiots that can't drive in it
Driving with a coat on
Getting all bundled up and having to pee

and, last, but not least...

Achey bones!

My 'to do list' for this week:

Go through Christmas decorations and down-size (keeping only the best and tossing the rest!)

Catching up on laundry - doing the 'big stuff' - blankets, comforters and throws.

Re-organizing the walk-in closet

Cleaning out the fridge and freezer

Heavy-duty cleaning  the living room

Addressing Christmas cards - updating address book

Weekly grocery shopping (I've been stocking up on staples in case of bad weather)

Other than that, reading my book and curling on the couch with my Boys and watch a few good movies.

Yes, I remember all of that fun stuff. Plus slipping and falling on the above mentioned black ice (which is also so much fun to drive on
). I could walk across a parking lot the size of a football field that had one spot of black ice on it. I'd find it and end up on my behind on the freezing cold asphalt.

When I was a kid, our driveway was a hill and it was pretty steep. I can't tell you how many times I fell walking down that %&#$ driveway on my way to the school bus. It was also a dream to shovel. The kind of dream where you wake up screaming.

Once we kids got older, it was our job to do it. It was a fairly long driveway and we also had the walkway and the carport to do. Wearing a wool cap was no fun because your head started to sweat. I swear my mom had x ray hearing because every time a hat would hit the snow, an upstairs window would fly open and she'd shriek, "PUT THAT HAT ON" out at us.

NEVER AGAIN

I took things to the post office yesterday.  The post office close to me is very slow, always a line, so I went before the holiday mailing started.  They did better yesterday than they had in the past.  They had multiple clerks working and they moved much faster than in the past but remained friendly.  Maybe others complained and they have improved service.  I am still glad to get the mailing out of the way just before Thanksgiving.

Winter is my 'rest' time since so much of my time is spent outdoors with our huge garden and HUGE yard full of flowers and berms. Since a lot of money is spent on water, I love ANY kind of moisture, even snow! (especially since I am 'retired' now) My to do list hasn't much on it, I'm cooking a 25 lb turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing, but then taking it all over to the in-laws, they don't go any where any more, especially with sleet and ice in the forecast. They'll bake the pies and provide the other necessities of Thanksgiving. I need to shop for bread, 1/2&1/2, celery, and other ingredients, and pick up some pictures I scanned to make an album for my son for Christmas. With cats in the house it seems like I have to clean SOMETHING every day. I need to get some ambition to start deep cleaning the house, after I decorate for Christmas this weekend. Maybe I'll make that house cleaning a New Years resolution!
