I have a 1 1/2 year old cat who till up to a few days ago was fine. A few days ago while my cat and I were sleeping in my bed room a large part of my living room ceiling feel down. She ran out there when she heard the noise. I'm not sure if it was still falling when she went out there or not. Ever since then she has been acting very strange. The first day she hid in my sons room and would not come out. Not even for treats.also she peed on my bed when I was gone. Now she will act fine most of the time but then all the sudden she will stare at nothing get all scared and walk all low to the ground and hide in my sons room for a while and then come out like she is fine. She gets this wide eye horrified look when she looks at the living room and won't go in there and walks low to the ground when passing by. She usually is a very hyper cat and runs around playing all day and night. But now she either sits right on me or hides in that room. She hasn't ate a whole lot the last couple days. And like I said before she will come in my room and lay down with me purring half asleep and the all the sudden she will pop up stare out the room like she is scared and go hide. Is she just dramatized? Will she get over this behavior in time? Or is there something I should be worried about?

My guess is she is traumatized. Has the ceiling been fixed? Any strange people coming in? Or smells?

My dad had a theory that cats see the ceiling as the sky. Can you imagine if the sky fell down?

You might want to keep her away from that area, in a bedroom maybe, for a week or so.

My ceiling has not been fixed yet. My landlord did come over yesterday to clean up and look at it. The room does have a musty smell now. The is crack across the rest of that ceiling and it doesn't look stable. Could it be possible that she can hear or tell more of it is going to fall. And that is why she suddenly stares at nothing and then goes and hides.

I'd be freaking out too, if the sky suddenly fell down on me. Keep her in one room with the Feliway, make her a little safe haven to stay in that is away from the living room. Let her calm down until she feels the world is back to rights.

Poor baby!  Cats are sensitive to noises and with that situation for sure she's very nervous. It would take sometime to get over that fear and of course with your love and assuring her that everything is okay, it would help her a lot.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if she could hear squeakings and creakings that you aren't aware of.

Good advice has been given already.  She may remain skittish until the repairs are complete.  As was said...pretty traumatic when the sky falls!  And the Feliway is good stuff.

She is probably just extremely freaked out by what happened.  I would give her a little space with some peace and quite, but still talk to her and reassure her to let her know that everything is okay and hopefully, with a bit of time, she will come back around.

Composure might be worth a go in this case. SUCH a scary thing to happen to any cat. It sounds like everyone should be kept out of that room until the ceiling is fixed.

Mega :vibes: for your little one.

Update: thank you everyone for your advice. After a few more days of hiding and not eating will my little Mew is back to her old self for the most part. It was actually funny I went into the living room to get something and she followed me. Then she got this look on her face like wow am I really in here.she then looked up at the whole (still not fixed) meowed as loud as she could right up at it and then walked out with her tail held high. And started acting normal after that. She still gets a little scared/worried here and there but not as bad. I'm just worried about when they come to fix it now.

Im glad to hear she is feeling better. It sounds like it was very scary to her!

When they come to repair the celing; set her up in a bedroom with all her necessities. That would be a good time to have feliway going (for a week beforehand actually) if you can. My cats enjoy laying on a shirt I have worn or bath towels we have used. Your kitty might find them calming too.
