Hello, I am located in Bellaire area in Houston, Texas.

Oreo (my brother named him) was a stray cat wandering about in the park when my brother took notice of him. He jumped in my dad car and they brought him home.

It's been a month or so since I had him but now the household is complaining about its smell and its hair messing up their "precious" bed!! They have no sense of love and feelings toward homeless kitties who just need extra care and they are thinking of leaving him out at the back yard.

Winter is approaching and I am concerned about Oreo's safety, he may or may not last outside in the wild and I am desperately looking for a loving family who has great compassion for this poor little soul.

It is a white cat with brown parts, it has just gone through an examination and vaccine and the doctor said that he is healthy and contains no worms or decease (as the report shows). I am also scheduled to bring him in to the hospital for neutering on 12/12. All fees have been paid in full and the coverage lasts one year. Oreo is playful, energetic; he loves fish and chicken and is not picky with his food. He loves to cuddle and play!

As much as I wish to keep him safe and sound indoors, it seems that the circumstances do not allow it to happen. I have prayed to God for him to find a loving family who will show great love to him and never abandon him and I trust that God will find him the best home.

If you feel for this kitty, please contact me and we can meet up to discuss about the details.

Thank you!

First off, this is an international forum, so it will be very difficult for you to find someone here to adopt Oreo.

Have you been told you must get rid of him?  What exactly is the smell that others are complaining of?  Is it litter box smell?  If so, where is the litter box located and how often are you cleaning it and what type of litter are you using?  Litter box odor is not too difficult to control, if you clean it daily or twice daily as well as dumping it once to twice a month.  Good quality litter is also a must.

As for the hair, is he shedding?  You can help control the shedding by brushing him daily.  Also you can train him to stay out of bedrooms or close the door.

I hope that you can find a way to help Oreo and keep him safe.

It's a complicated situation right now as there is a possibility that the whole house is going to be rented out and therefore having the cat indoors will not be an option. If, however, the house stays the same, there is still a small possibility of having the cat indoors, not only because of its smell (and i really can't pinpoint exactly what smell they are referring to, but it's the general cat smell that you get if you leave your cat in a mid-size room with only one window that's half way open and a litter box inside), but because the fact he will be a nuisance to the people coming in and out of the house (the house is shared among few people and I stay in one room). The only option seems like having him outside or getting rid of him.

Yes I clean the litter box daily and before I left him in the separate room it was kept in the living room with the litter box placed next to the backdoor which allows breeze to reduce the smell. Maybe it's just my nose but even when the cat was in the living room with the litter box placement, there was still complaint about the smell, which I think it's just over exaggerating.

As for hair, he sheds hair like wherever he sits and lays, so that may also cause some issues to the household. By all means, cat haters always hate and they can come up with a whole lot of problems, and that's what I'm getting right now!

I'm already looking up online on how to build an outdoor cat house that keeps the cat warm during winter times but still I cannot guarantee its safety. It almost feels like throwing your own child into the wilderness and not providing them any safety measures. But when the time comes, I will have to, or forced to take him to the shelter or just leave him outside. Or maybe I will just have to keep him in my room, which has no windows and ventilation for fresh air.

I have contacted one of the rescue centers, but they refused to take in my cat since they only do it for the local residents. I'm still trying.

This cat does not seem to be a feral but rather a stray and I do not wish to become the second owner to abandon him.

It seems as though you have bonded with Oreo too much for others to have the right to complain about non-existing things..

You compared him to a child of yours

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I might try that if everything else doesn't work out. My classmate is helping me ask his friends and see if we can find a new home for Oreo. And yes, I feed him wet fish food in the morning and dry chicken food during the day. The smell will probably reduce after it has been neutered, but the best is to perhaps keep him in my room with the mesh installed. Hopefully it won't start tearing off the bed sheets and clothes/socks.
