As many of you know, my MIL went into assisted living last week. She is doing well and she seems to be fitting in with the other residents. She has her friends she sits with for meals and I think she's going to like it there.

We stopped in last night for a while. She told me that one of her dinner partners is my old Home Economics teacher from back when I was in high school. And the woman remembers me! Why? Because I was such a bad cook that she couldn't give me a grade higher than a D on my report card. She said she knew I tried and that's why she didn't fail me completely. But I was bad. Couldn't cook, couldn't sew....she had serious doubts that I would ever cook anything. I remember telling her one time that it didn't matter, that I was going to become a lawyer and hire my own cook.

She told my MIL about that little story. And Evelyn started to laugh. She told my teacher that I am now one of the best cooks she knows! The teacher was very surprised. And when Evelyn told her about my cookbook collection and about how much I love making breads, she was amazed. She told my MIL that she would love to meet me now, just to chat a bit. When Evelyn told me that, I said that I'd love the opportunity to stop in and have lunch with them. She's going to set something up and let me know when.

Gee, maybe I should take some cookies or something in when I meet her.
I wonder if she'd eat them?!

:jaw: Wow - what a small world! Definitely take a couple of your signature bakes/cookies/etc in for her to see how far you've come :yummy:

What a coincidence and I'm glad Evelyn told her just how far you have come in the kitchen.  Sometimes we may not do well on some subjects in school but it's what counts afterwards what you make of yourself.  You have to love what you do to do it well and I know you love to cook.

It would be nice to see her after all these years, let us know how it goes when you finally meet up.

I love stories like that!

I'm glad she gave you an "A" for effort and passed you! LOL  And kudos to YOU for pursuing your passion! There are SO many renowned people who failed - or, better yet, were encouraged to fail - yet, kept doing what they loved to do and succeeded beyond their dreams!

Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because  he "lacked imagination"!

After a performance at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, Elvis was told by the concert hall manager that he was better off returning to Memphis and driving trucks.

Before her iconic show I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball was considered a failed actress, a B-list actress. So much so that her drama instructors urged her to try another profession.

Ironically, Steven Spielberg was rejected from the University of Southern California School of Theater, Film and Television three times.

Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team!

Rudyrad Kipling was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. He was fired as his role as contributor to the San Francisco Examiner in 1889 because he was told by an editor, “I’m sorry Mr. Kipling, but you just don’t know how to use the English language.”

Harland David Sanders, (perhaps better known as Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame) had a hard time selling his chicken at first. In fact, his famous secret chicken recipe was rejected 1,009 times before a restaurant accepted it.

As a final note - Before taking your specialty treat to your teacher, you might want to find out if she has any dietary restrictions. Wouldn't it be the craps if you presented her with a plate of your best sugar cookies and she was a diabetic?
