Howdy Folks,

I am a, sort of, first time cat owner. Didn't used to like cats very much when I was younger, then my Brother began dating a crazy cat lady, who he proceeded to marry and here we are, with me as a cat lover.
My Brother and his Wife moved in with my parents and I shortly before they got married bringing their three cats with them(hence sort of). They recently the moved away taking my three 'nieces' with them, which left a cat sized hole left in my heart, one which even my beloved dog couldn't fill.

A few weeks back I went out to visit my buddy who had just bought himself a new acreage, when I got there he showed me his house and what not, then we decided to go outside start a fire and sit and listen to coyotes howl and talk about everything and anything. Now what I didn't expect was for a tiny kitten to come bounding out of the darkness and into my heart.
As we sat around the fire this wee kitten would come and go, and finally I was able to get my hands on her and hold her for a bit. She at this point decided to curl up in my lap, purring mind you, and fall asleep. It was quite cold out that night and we were rapped in blankets so she was under the blanket nice and warm.
My friend had a ton of cats who had come with the place and they all lived under they front porch, the one cat apparently was in a constant state of pregnant and birth and he needed to get rid of some of the cats, so naturally he was like "You realize she is going home with you right?" I laughed and said "I wish."
As I was leaving that night, the kitten tried to climb into my car with me, as if she was like "Welp I'm ready to head home now!"

4 days later my Father and I were driving out to get her. My Dad also missed the cats living with us and was ready for one of our own and we convinced my Mother with some mild emotional blackmail that we needed to bring this kitten home. We went with, "Winter is coming", sadly neither of my parents is a GoT fan and the quote went over their heads.. But winter in fact is coming, and she was much to small to survive, and as it turns out she was somewhat sick with a fever, worms, ear mites and an upper respiratory infection, and I was quite sure she wasn't going to live through our harsh winters.

So now she is home with me, and she is one of the sweetest cats I have ever met. Very affectionate, very loving, and a wee bit crazy. Her name became Nessie, or 'Ness' as I call her, because we kept calling her things like Sweet'Ness' and Cute'Ness' and so on and so forth.

This has been an amazing, stressful, and interesting few weeks learning all about raising a kitten of my own, and now I have come here for some help and extra knowledge!

That's a great story.  I love the cat 'nieces'!
I hope your friend is going to get that cat spayed.

Welcome!

Welcome to TCS. She is a cutie!  My kitty is the first & I have had as well. I have learned A LOT on this site in the few years I have been here.  The more threads you read, the more you learn. You will also find there are many helpful, knowledgeable people here!  Yes, I agree, I hope your friend takes that cat to get spayed!  He can probably get the help of a rescue group if he needs help catching her.

Welcome!
I strongly doubt he will be getting her spayed. Farm cats don't normally get that kind of treatment.. Thsee cats are more or less wild and my friend basically keeps them around to kill the vermin.

Perhaps he'll reconsider if you point out that neutered cats make far better mousers because they don't have to deal with the distractions of the whole mating process.

I agree with jcat. Also, remind him that if he doesn't, it won't take long before he is overrun with lots of cats! They will just keep multiplying, and then it will be another issue. He can contact a group that helps TNR, trap, neuter, & return. Any vet or rescue group should know someone to referr him to. I really hope he does.
